“Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way”

This is the most popular song of the month December. It shouts out loud that Christmas is almost
round the corner! People are filled with happiness. Even the air seems merrier during this
festival. It symbolizes peace, harmony and love.

This festival is symbolised by snow, cold, lights and the big Christmas tree. People visit each
other and make merry.

WHEN IS CHRISTMAS CELEBRATED?


 

Every year Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December. It is considered to be the birth
anniversary of Jesus Christ. On this auspicious day, people go to the church to take blessings
from the Lord. Although the main celebration takes place on this day but the preparations start
almost a week ago.

It is one of the most festive time of the year. The approaching New Year makes this occasion
filled with happiness and joy. Also, it is the time of vacations so people get to spend time with
family and enjoy it to the fullest.

WHY IS CHRISTMAS CELEBRATED?


 
Christians belief that on 25th December God came down to earth and  took birth in the form of a
human child. He was believed to be the messiah of God who came down to save mankind. Jesus
was born in Bethlehem to Mother mary.

Jesus Christ showed the right path to the people. He even made a lot of sacrifices for the mortal
beings. The most significant one being his crucification in the cross to nullify the sins of the
world. This is the reason people loved him and followed his teachings. On 25th of December
people remember him fondly and celebrate his birthday with great feasts!

HOW PEOPLE CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS?


 

Christmas is one of the most awaited and loved festival. The weather and the surroundings are a
sight to behold. During this time of the year, snowfall takes place in most of the European and
American countries. It makes the festival more happening.
This day is mostly celebrated with family and close ones. People decorate their houses, make
tasty food and exchange gifts with their loved ones. A wholesome heavy meal is a part and
parcel of Christmas.
The decoration of a Christmas tree is also very important. It is decorated with lights and gifts.
The colour red and green are highly associated with this festival. It symbolizes Jesus’s birth,
death and resurrection.
On the night before Christmas, the churches are filled with devotees. They sing Carols and
remember the Lord. They distribute sweets and make merry. Churches are decorated beautifully
with the Christmas star and twinkling lights. Candles are lit everywhere.

The premises of the Church are decorated with the idols of the Lord and mother Mary. It also
shows the birth of Jesus Christ and other Christian beliefs.

SANTA CLAUS!
 

One of the age old beliefs of Christmas is the Santa Claus. He is associated with Christmas in an
inseparable way. Santa is believed to be an old man in a red suit who bring gifts for children. He
comes in the early morning hours of Christmas with a bag full of gifts.On this day, the children
eagerly wait for their gift by Santa.

Thus, Christmas is considered to be one of the most religious and devotional festivals of the
Christians. It invokes love, peace and humanity among the people. It is a way of appreciating the
sacrifices of Jesus and honouring him.
