Initiative 1 Attract, admit, and retain high quality degree-seeking international undergraduate and
graduate students
Initiative 2 Enhance CSU’s marketing strategies to potential international undergraduate and
graduate students
Initiative 3 Formalize outreach and engagement of CSU’s international alumni

Priority 4: Enhance Campus and Community Communication

Initiative 1 Improve communication regarding international programs and opportunities within
the campus and community

Priority 5: Integrate Online Payments for Enrolment, Document Request Fees, etc.
Initiative 1 Secure agreement with a local bank to establish a payment system for services to be
rendered to clients.

IHE takes two major forms: internationalization at home (IaH) and internationalization abroad (IA). IaH
is composed of campus-based strategies encompassing international academic mobility. This gives
prominence to campus-based elements such as the intercultural and international dimensions in the
teaching-learning process, research, extra-curricular activities, relationship with local cultural and ethnic
community groups, as well as the integration of foreign students and scholars into campus life and
activities. Crossborder education (CBE) or IA refers to two or more campus initiatives that reflect the
regionalization or internationalization of courses. IA raises issues such as brain drain; uneven quality of
instruction, accreditation and credential recognition; double and joint degrees; commodification and
commercialization (for-profit); and, impact on status, profile or world ranking of institutions (Knight,
2008).

POINTS TO CONSIDER:
1. Attractiveness of the Institution. Close coordination with privates companies in terms of
employing highly employable CSU graduates should be made.
2. Communication. Establishing a sound medium of communication within and outside the
institution. Phone lines should be prioritize as more students will be more willing to inquire to the
institution.
3. International Internships. These are ways that must be found for all students to enhance their
global awareness and/or competencies.
4. Global Symposium. Once a year the CSU Center for Intercultural and International Programs will
organize the CSU Global Symposium that will bring together the campus community and
members of different clusters to share and exchange experiences and information. This
Symposium will help to address the current fragmented and uncoordinated status of campus
internationalization efforts.
5. Faculty and Staff Development. Efforts to internationalize the curriculum and the campus
ultimately call for substantial investment in faculty and staff development because their role is
crucial. CSU will organize workshops and seminars on specific topics (for example infusing
global content into a course, using technology, development and leadership for and education
abroad program, international service learning opportunities, and international grant proposal
development).
6. International Students. Under the Internationalization Strategic Plan, increasing the number of
international students on campus, including degree-seeking and exchange students. A critical
mass of international students is needed in order to positively impact the campus environment.
International students are an important resource as they create educational and cultural
experiences for the community.
7. International Scholars. The faculty will be encouraged to look at ways to bring international
scholars to campus to teach, research, or speak at university events. CSU will be the one to
facilitate Scholar Visa Program and assists the university faculty and staff with bringing foreign
scholars to campus.
8. International Campus Environments. Creating an international environment sends a strong
message to students, parents, and visitors that internationalization is one of the central
components of the University’s character and identity; and that at CSU we expect the students to
develop global awareness and/or competency. Global Learning will be a prominent and recurrent
theme as new first-year students are introduced to University life – in orientation videos and
materials, campus tours, welcoming addresses, and initial advising appointments.
9. Courses with Significant Global Content: The Global Awareness Committee will conduct an
inventory of all courses that contain significant international content every two years. This
inventory will serve as a benchmark against which progress on internationalization of the
curriculum will be measured.
10. Global Certificate Program: A Center for Intercultural and International Programs must be
created and in coordination with the Department of Languages will implement the proposed
undergraduate Global Certificate Program to encourage and reward global learning. The program
will recognize students who engage in foreign language learning, education abroad, participate in
global service-learning and co-curricular activities. The program will offer a great platform from
which to reach and engage students across the University. The certificate program will be flexible
enough that students can obtain it even if they do not leave the country, by engaging in a range of
activities that foster global awareness and competency.
11. International Student Research: Student involvement in research is very important to their
educational experience. Undergraduate research encourages students to extend themselves
beyond structured course material to become independent thinkers and learners.
The island province of CATANDUANES ... The isle of the eastern seas in the
pacific-- one of the country’s few bastions of lush forests and greenery, and seat of
the only premier higher education institution in the province:

Being at the cradle of an island province, said to be one of the few bastions of the
country’s well-kept flora and fauna, the Catanduanes State University takes pride
in sharing such crowning ecological glory in its VISION as “A GREEN
UNIVERSITY GLOBALLY ENGAGED IN ISLAND RESEARCH AND
INNOVATIONS FOR SOCIETAL ADVANCEMENT.”

As the CatSU endeavors to carry on its meaningful journey, the dynamism of the
university has more than ever before, become fruitful and fulfilling, in truly
serving its pillars of service especially now with the introduction of the
Internationalization Program.

The establishment of the CatSU Center for International Relations and Continuing
Professional Development Services in _____ paved way for our teaching and non-
teaching staff to be exposed to the various international learning opportunities.
