For Brendah, who was the inspiration for this short film.
Who also happens to be the dummest person (in a good, lovely
and hellishly turn-on way) I know.

1 EXT. GARDEN - KIGALI - NOON 1

FADE IN:

We open up on a serene, green, garden which would be the

perfect definition of silence if it wasn't for the weak
sound of the PASSING CARS on the nearby road. In this garden
we see A COUPLE SITTING on a carpet having a picnic. The
girl Isaro, is a 20 year old humble looking girl with BLONDE
DYE (think of Jaden Smith but female) in her hair. Bagenzi
the boy, is a 19 year old RELAXED LOOKING guy with a fading
cut and a few beards.

BAGENZI
So peaceful. Here we're free.

ISARO
Don't you wish we could stay like
this forever? Here?

BAGENZI
Yeah... (beat) But we cannot.

ISARO
What? Why?

BAGENZI
I'm sure you would tell me you're
starving without even spending the
first day here

ISARO
Bagenzi don't be silly, you know I
can't.

Isaro gives Bagenzi a push on the shoulder which Bagenzi

returns. They look at each other, they lean in slowly and
share a passionate kiss. They are everything they ever
wished for. Bagenzi pulls out and looks around.

BAGENZI
Plus, this is a public garden. I
don't see how we can live here.

ISARO
We can live here as birds.

BAGENZI
I hate birds.

ISARO
I hate you dummy.

2.

BAGENZI
I hate you too dummy. No... dummy?
You're a dummy-ess. Dummess, that's
the word.

Isaro gives a playfully mean look on Bagenzi. He shrugs and

smiles. Bagenzi stretches and lays down face up looking at
the sky. Isaro does the same.

ISARO
The sun is setting soon.

BAGENZI
No clouds by the way. It'll be a
beautiful twilight. Just like you at
noon.

ISARO
(a little upset)
I thought they say "like you in the
morning".

BAGENZI
Trust me you're terrible in the
morning. I mean your hair's messed
up, your eyes swollen and you really
look like a zombie.

ISARO
Now I hate you, I really mean it.

BAGENZI
C'mon, I'm just kidding. You know
there's no one better than my baby
mamaaaaaa!

ISARO
There's something I need to tell
you--

Bagenzi's phone rings. Isaro stands and brings it to him.

ISARO (cont'd)
Duty calling. It's your boss.

BAGENZI
Oh shit.

Bagenzi gets up and shakes the grass off him. Isaro hands
him the phone and he pockets it. He fondly looks at Isaro.

3.

BAGENZI (cont'd)
How about we watch that sun setting
twilight together this evening? Then
you can tell me your little secret,
right?

Isaro is clearly annoyed but tries to hide it.

BAGENZI (cont'd)
Hey! Don't worry about this. You know
I'll always be there with you even
when I'm not around. You know what?
My place.

ISARO
Your drinks too. deal?

Bagenzi smiles and takes her in for another kiss. She comes
near, near, but... she pulls away playfully. Bagenzi looks
like a thirteen year old who's grounded.

BAGENZI
You owe me a kiss this evening.

They both smile. Bagenzi goes and grabs his motorbike speeds
off.

ZOOM ON:

Isaro's face as she watches him go away.

ISARO (V.O.)
But I should have known it was the
last time I saw him, maybe I could
have treated him like it was the last
time.

2 EXT. KIGALI - ROAD - TWILIGHT 2

DISSOLVE TO:

Softly, "Pressure" by Precious Keza starts playing. We see a

squashed up motorbike... Bagenzi's. We continue to see a
car, crashed off the road with a bloody and broken
windshield. The camera slides along on the road to reveal AN
AMBULANCE and several POLICE CARS.

ISARO (V.O.)
Maybe sometimes we are left to
ourselves to realise how love is
painful, how it demands a lot.

4.

The camera stops on top of Bagenzi. He's not as we know him.

This Bagenzi is broken down, hurt, vulnerable... dying.
Surrounding him are: policemen, several people MAKING PHONE
CALLS, a couple of people from the ambulance trying to get
him on the ambulance, many people all around trying to see
the accident.

ISARO (V.O.) (cont'd)

Sometimes it'll be like a cherry for
some of us sweet, red and soft. It'll
be a blessing.

We see a YOUNG MAN AND WOMAN holding on to each other. The

woman tearfully watching the scene. The man trying to remain
composed. He holds her closer.

ISARO (V.O.) (cont'd)

But for some unlucky souls, love ends
in pain, in suffering and tears. Not
all stories have happy endings.

We see Bagenzi loaded on the ambulance and the crowd

dissipate slowly by slowly.

3 INT. AMBULANCE - TWILIGHT 3

BAGENZI'S POV:

We see the twilight. Fading, wining, marking the end of a

day. Just to show that everything has an end.

Pressure fades away slowly.

END BAGENZI'S POV.

4 EXT. ISARO'S HOUSE - BALCONY - TWILIGHT 4

JUMP CUT TO:

Isaro also watches the twilight from her balcony. As we

ANGLE ON her face more we see that she's grown a few years
older than the first scene. She's now DREADLOCKED and she
WEARS GLASSES.

CHILD(O.S.)
Mom!!!

Isaro turns back and disappears from frame.

5 INT. ISARO'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM 5

We see on the wall:A picture of Bagenzi and Isaro in their

good old days. A picture of a BABY in Isaro's arms. The
child looks strangely like Bagenzi.

"Mine" by Andy Bumuntu as the screen fades to black
