III. INTRODUCTION / OVERVIEW

 Market research exists to guide the business decisions by giving the business insight
into the market, competitors, products, marketing and customers. This enables the
business to make informed choices. Market research will help the business develop a
successful marketing strategy1.

 Market research helps reduce risks by allowing the business to get product, price and
promotion right from the outset. It also helps the business to focus to resources where
they'll be most effective1.

 On Unit 3 chapter 8, read the article titled “A Short Glimpse of a Consumer Groups
by Generation” at page 70, and answer the discussion questions at page 72.

D. CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING

 Incorporate the definition of marketing research to its importance by identifying


the impact of the research to the business.
 Try to answer this question; are small organizations on the losing side if they
do not have marketing research as compare to large organizations? Why or why
not?
 What will be the appropriate research methodology of the following: (The
answers can be outlined either by manner of gathering information, type of
information to be gathered, or type of study)
o A five star hotel wants to find out the guest satisfaction with the hotel’s
facilities, amenities, location, rooms, food, and other services.
o A famous clothing store wants to find out the level of customer service
offered in its main store.
o A manufacturing company, maker of a popular detergent wants to test a
new packaging design or a new commercial to see its effectiveness vs. its
previous version.

expensive. What steps did you take before arriving at the decision of making the
