Important points for hands on activity:

• Excel is a combination of rows and columns, and these rows and


columns store our data which in other terms are named as records,
as excel is the most common tool we store the data in excel which
makes it as a database, when we put data in excel in some form of
tables in rows and columns and give table a name that is a database
in excel, we can also import data from other sources in excel given
the format of the data is in proper with the excel format.

• Sorting is any process of arranging items systematically, and has


two common, yet distinct meanings: ordering: arranging items in a
sequence ordered by some criterion; categorizing: grouping items
with similar properties.

• Steps to Sort data in excel

• Highlight the rows and/or columns you want sorted.


• Navigate to "Data" along the top and select "Sort."
• If sorting by column, select the column you want to order your
sheet by.
• If sorting by row, click "Options" and select "Sort left to right."
• Choose what you'd like sorted.
• Choose how you'd like to order your sheet.
• Click "OK.
Filtering data in MS Excel

6. PRACTICAL: Create an excel sheet of names of 8 students on your
computer with their marks in ENG, MATHS, SCIENCE,
SST,HINDI(out of 100).Now try and sort the data from highest to
lowest according to the marks in Science.
