A PRICELESS DREAM

Daniel 2:24-49
January 13, 2019

(Review the first 23 verses of Daniel 2 through a picture and tell the story)
2 lessons not to miss:
 God is still the solution to every man’s problem – when all the wise men could not solve
it, God can.
 As Nebuchadnezzar puts significance and search for the dream, we must search for the
word of God - Nebuchadnezzar was willing to kill all the wise men just for this dream.
We notice that the dream was very simple (illustrate), but this dream becomes precious
to Nebuchadnezzar, precious to Daniel and his friends, and precious to us today because the
dream is glimpse of the future (latter days/last days – verse 28).
How precious and valuable this dream is?
1. Daniel saved the wise men vss.24-25
Daniel became the salt of Babylon, he was used by God to preserve the lives of the wise
men. In God’s law, God is against these wise men (Exodus 22:18, Leviticus 20:6, 27;
Deuteronomy 18:10-12). Daniel knows that God is against the practices of these wise men and
that they deserve to die but Daniel preserved their lives because Daniel learned how to love the
enemies.
The unbelievers are the enemies of God but God loves them, He died for them, He gave
His life for them and we must love them, we must have compassion, in order to save them
(Matthew 9:36).
The time of the wise men’s death is coming closely, their lives are in danger, but the
moment Daniel knew the dream and the interpretation, Daniel was brought to the king in
haste. Daniel wasted no time. Don’t waste your time. Don’t delay because people will go to hell.
It was just a simple dream but through Daniel’s life that dream was used by God for the
wise men to be saved (Maybe the wise men thanked Daniel for saving them). I hope that God
will use our life so that many will be saved.

2. Daniel showed the true great God vss.27-28

In verse 26, Daniel was questioned by the king (“Art thou able?”). In a human
perspective, Daniel was just a junior and inferior to the wise men of Babylon who are seniors,
probably they were the teachers of Daniel during schooling. But Daniel showed them it’s not
him but it’s the great and the true God who is able to makes impossible things possible (“There
is a God in heaven”).
There are many impossible things in our life and we cannot do it, we cannot make it, but
there is a God in heaven that is great, powerful, almighty – then we must show to the world
that we serve the true and the great God (Jeremiah 33:3). Have we showed the world how
great our God is? Have we showed the world that we have the true God?
And now Daniel started to show and interpret the dream. The large image represented
four Gentile kingdoms:
a. The head of Gold – Babylonian kingdom and Nebuchadnezzar (vss.37-38)
b. The breast and arms of silver – Medo-Persian kingdom and Darius (Daniel 5:30-31) during
538-330 BC – vs.39
c. The belly and thighs of bronze – Grecian kingdom and Alexander the Great (330-63 BC) –
vs.39
d. The legs of iron and feet of iron and clay – Roman empire (63 BC-AD 475) – vss.41-43
e. The stone that destroyed the image who became a great mountain – the coming and the
reign of the kingdom of Jesus Christ – vss.44-45
The dream and its interpretation was very simple but it gives us an important lesson:
 God plans and controls the history – (cf. Daniel 2:36-37) History is his HIS STORY. God is
the best planner. Let God involve the plan of your life.
 Worldly things depreciate value and days pass by
 World peace will only come in the kingdom of Christ
 Christ is coming to establish the true kingdom
 We are now at the end times

3. Daniel stayed with his friends – vss.46-49

Daniel was praised, honored, and treated like a god but Daniel did not forget his friends,
Daniel looks and cares for his friends because they prayed together for this dream and
interpretation.
Don’t forget those people who prayed for you. Don’t be arrogant when you have
success. Don’t forget the church and the pastor when God will bless you.
