“Ang Kambas Ng Lipunan” documentary has a very striking idea

towards the society that some of us forget. We all know that Joey
Velasco is an exemplary artist and his way of creating an art is unique
compared to others. By viewing his work individually and without
watching the video, we can reflect ourselves to each of the characters
painted. It simply shows how humanity may not able to help those who
are need just because we didn’t know they exist or worse because we
don’t experience their everyday lives.
Upon watching the video, a thought lingered through my mind- how am
I not helping these people when I can literally reach out my hand. It
never occurred to me that every single day I am passing these people
while walking through streets, during my transportation or while I am
eating to any fast food chains. I used to believe that these kind of
people can be a part of a syndicate. I finally understand that sometimes
they don’t need any financial help but rather just a food to eat and a
water to drink. Offering some will not hurt for kindness don’t cost too
much. The unbelievable and the part where I am most guilty of is these
characters are younger than I am. During their age, they are probably
must be in school or have something to digest because ages 3-9, is the
stage of person’s life where nutrition is needed for growth. While I am
is constantly complaining on how toasted my lunch is or how my
mother didn’t bought me enough milk just because I want to have
more, these children is just wishing to have something to eat even just
a crackers to chew.
Among all the characters chosen by Mr. Velasco, I was struck the most
by Emong. He is still positive at almost everything and his optimism is
beyond my expectations. He can easily create a scenario of him with
Jesus by showing him the painting made by Mr. Velasco. “Oh! We saw
Jesus in the streets and we invited him to eat.” By seeing his status, you
can actually tell that what we have is definitely inadequate for him but
he still has a room for Jesus and even share what little he has.
These children has nothing to offer us but a lesson that we should be
thankful for what we have and treat everyone kindly and generously. I
hope that in the near future, we may be to see how they changed
through out the time.
