MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL: SOUND EFFECT

‘Buzzzzz!’ The sound of my alarm clock droned in my ears as I

struggled to wake up. With a start, I sat up strainght on my bed. This

was my big day and I had to be on time.

MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL: DIALOGUE

‘Hurry up or you’ll be late!’ called my mother

from the bottom of the stairs. ‘Today, of all
days, you have to be on time.’ If I only knew
what that would be, I would have stayed in
bed!
MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL: VIVID
DESCRIPTION

 The sun was warm on my back as I raced

towards the school bus. As I nestled into
the worn leather seat, I was greeted by the
voices of my friends, I gleamed with
happiness. The school bus rumbled and I
was on my way to the worst days of my life.

STRATEGIES TO WRITE A NARRATIVE ESSAY

 Choosing a topic

 Brainstorming

 Making an outline
CHOOSING A TOPIC

 Ask yourself questions:

 When was an important time in my life?

 What has happened in my experience that I would enjoy

writing about?

 Is there an event in my life that other people (readers)

would enjoy hearing about?

 Why do I remember this event so strongly? What effect

did it have on me?

 Did anything change because of this experience?

BRAINSTORMING
Ask wh- questions about your topic.

Example: Celebrating Women’s Day

Questions: Who celebrates Women’s Day?

What is the history of this celebration?

When does the celebration take place?

In what parts of the world is Women’s Day celebrated?

Why is it celebrated?

How do people celebrate women on this day?

How is it the same or different from Mother’s Day?
