People’s Memorandum to the Tripunithura Municipality

To,

The Chairperson

Muncipality, Tripunithura

Date :

Subject: Pedestrian safety in our city

Respected Madam,

We the undersigned people’s organization, concerned citizens of india submit this

memorandum before you as the chairperson, to draw your attention towards the importance
of pedestrian safety measures to be implemented urgently in our city where pedestrian
injuries and deaths are alarmingly increasing. Roads in kerala are becoming death traps for
pedestrians and 35% of road fatalities involve pedestrians.

Our aim is to:

1. Arouse public awareness on pedestrian safety and health benefits of walking.

2. Making alive the existing amenities and making a safe zone for pedestrians to walk.
3. To implement a model project in Tripunithura which involve construction of footpath
and canal from Vadakkekotta junction to Poornathrayesa temple and from there to
Kizhakkekotta junction. As the KMRL has already got footpaths getting constructed
from Petta to SN junction and NHAI has an ongoing project from SN junction to
Poothotta, a continuous safe walking zone may be obtained if the above stretch is also
made pedestrian friendly by providing adequate footpath. (Annexure 1)

Our Recommendations:

1. To provide footpaths with safe flooring and good illumination and designed to the
existing standard guidelines with regard to width, depth and surface type placements.
(Annexure 2)
2. Electrical posts and cables to be tunneled as in any other developed countries.
