CE2221 Dynamics of Rigid Bodies Final Course Work //JESano

INSTRUCTION: Read and analyze each problem carefully. Write your COMPLETE and SYSTEMATIC solutions
NEATLY and ORDERDLY on the space provided. Express all FINAL answers in THREE decimal places and
ENCLOSE them in a BOX.

Problem 1. A projectile is fired upward to the right from the top of a 50 m high building with an initial
velocity of 200 m/s and an angle of 60˚ with the horizontal.
a. Determine the maximum height above the building that the projectile can reach.
b. Determine the y-component of the velocity with which the projectile hits the ground.

Problem 2. A 3.00 kg bock starts from rest at the top of a 30.0˚ incline and slides a distance of 2.00 m
down the incline in 1.50 s. The coefficient of kinetic friction between block and plane is 0.37.

a. Determine the friction force acting on the block.

b. Determine the speed of the block after it has slid 2.00 m.

Problem 3. A 3.00 kg particle has a velocity of (2.00i – 4.00j) m/s.

a. What is the magnitude of its momentum?
b. What is the direction of its momentum?

Problem 4. A woman weighing 80 kg jumps from a pier with a horizontal velocity of 5 m/s onto a 120 kg
boat moving towards the dock at 4 m/s. What would be the velocity of the boat after the woman lands on it?

Problem 5. A bullet of mass m1 = 2g hits a stationary block of wood of m2 = 12 kg and becomes embedded
in it. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the floor is µ=0.15. If the block slides 3mm on
the floor as a result of the impact, what was the bullet’s velocity before the collision?
