JMI alumnus selected in UP PCS(J) gets surprise call from VC to congratulate, takes
motivational lecture for students aspiring to be judges

Jaseem Khan, an alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI), who has just cleared Uttar Pradesh’s
Judicial Civil Services Examination securing 36th rank, was in for a surprise when he received a
call from the university Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar to congratulate him on his
achievement.
The Vice-Chancellor had come to know about the achievement of Jaseem, who had earlier been
not very lucky with his five attempts to clear UPSC-Civil Services but had not given up his zeal
and qualified for the judicial services exam in his first attempt itself without taking any coaching,
through the media. He has done his schooling and graduation from JMI.
Jaseem met the VC personally when he visited Delhi and at her advice he today had an
interactive session with around 200 students of the Faculty of Law to motivate and guide them
how to prepare for judicial services. He also answered questions raised by various students
during the session.
Deepesh Kr Singh, a student of 4th year of B.A. LLB, later said that the interaction was very
helpful for those who are aspiring to appear for judicial services exams.
Swapnil Dubey, another 4th year student of B.A. LLB, said Mr Jaseem gave several tips which
are very crucial for the preparation of these exams. “We also learned not to lose heart at failure
as patience, perseverance and hard work always pays.”
Harshit Agarwal, another 4th year student, said “I’m fortunate to be part of the interactive and
inspiring session during which Mr Jaseem briefed about the impediments that the law students
face while doing the course.”
Since taking over as Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar has made it a point to meet personally
and congratulate students, researchers, teachers and alumni who are making their mark in their
respective field.
