Canterbury Plains, the TranzAlpine winds its way over massive viaducts, through spectacular river gorges
and the stunning Waimakariri River valley. It tracks its way up and across the spectacular Southern Alps via
the alpine village of Arthur’s Pass situated 737 metres above sea level, before descending through lush
beech forests past the beautiful Lake Brunner to the West Coast town of Greymouth, on the Tasman Sea.

The towns of Kumara and Hokitika were once the centres of feverish gold mining activity. The narrow
coastal strip of land between the mountains and the sea becomes more forested as we journey further south
through Ross, Hari Hari and Whataroa to reach the glacier region.

5.20 pm Arrive in Franz Josef, on arrival your driver will drop you off at your accommodation.

Franz Josef Glacier, a perfect paradox. This remote village is set on the six hundred kilometre coastline in
the tranquillity of Westland National Park and yet offers rest and recreation at city levels amongst some of
the wildest scenery in New Zealand. A wonderful relaxing bush environment with one of only two glaciers in
the world that descend from crisp, clear snowfalls into lush, temperate rainforest. New Zealand's West
Coast in the South Island rises from sea level through luxurious rain forest to a breath-taking high country
that draws visitors from all over the world on an all-round pilgrimage for the uncluttered and unspoilt beauty
that it offers.

lake. The boardwalk winds through ancient native rainforest and the three viewing platforms offer amazing
vistas of Lake Matheson, with Fox Glacier & Mt Cook, when the weather is right.

Visit the West Coast Wildlife Centre in the centre of Franz Josef township, an all-weather attraction where

This vibrant university city of Scottish heritage, Dunedin, New Zealand's oldest city, possesses a unique
combination of cultural riches, fine architecture, and world-famous wildlife reserves on the Otago Peninsula.
The sheer physical beauty of Dunedin, dramatic bush-covered hills and valleys at the head of a long natural
harbour, attracted Maori settlers to the site over four centuries ago. Soaring cathedral spires, a magnificent
Flemish-style railway station, fine banks and office blocks, a nineteenth-century castle, old university
buildings and a neo-gothic convent are among the city's architectural treasures.
