Opening of Conference & Release of Road Safety White Paper

2nd Conference on Operation and
Maintenance of Highway Operator’s
Association of India (HOAI) found the
same tumultuous response as its first
edition in Mumbai, 2019. Conference
was organised by Cube Highways and
Transportation Assets Advisors Pvt.
Ltd. represented by Mr. Anuj Maitrey, VP
Transportation and Bovin Kumar, COO.
Neeraj Sanghi, CEO, Highway Concessions
Pvt. Ltd. briefed the audience regarding
the successful formation of HOAI as
well as about various opportunities
and challenges facing the sector with
respect to O&M aspects. Conference had
a panel discussion on ETC and several
individual presentations by our leaders.
Also, a white paper on “Best Practices
in Road Safety in HOAI Managed Road
Assets including Contractual Aspects to
Enhance Road Safety” was released at
the Conference.

Panel Discussion on – Cashless Toll Plaza Operation

Opening paper titled Cashless Plaza
Operation – Challenges and Opportunities
was jointly presented by Dr Zafar Khan
(Head Ops – Peak Infra) and Anurag
Sharma (Ops Manager- Cube Highways).
The paper apprised the delegates about
the possible challenges and solutions for
implementation of FASTAG plan of
MORTH, allowing only one lane for cash
paying traffic and keeping remaining all
other lanes for FASTAG vehicles. More
solutions for reducing the stress on cash
lane by various modes of faster and easier
payment were considered:
It was agreed to develop a pilot project
with stakeholders to showcase the above.
Conference resolved to support the
initiative of MORTH by increasing
penetration rates of FASTAG vehicle by
whatever means possible.FASTAG offers
the convenience of cashless payment
along with benefits like - savings on fuel
and time as the customer does not has to
stop at the toll plaza.

Presentation on – Pavement Technology

Today the field of smart pavements
are emerging rapidly with
technological innovations which
describes self-adaptability, self-
sensing, and multiple functionalities.
M a ny i n n ova t i ve m e t h o d s a n d
applications are emerging in India and
throughout the globe for improving
the life of the pavements like
emulsified bituminous mix, foam
bituminous mix, fiber reinforced
bituminous mix, composite
pavements, perpetual pavements etc.

possibilities.

HC 1 team at the O & M conference.

CDC visited HO/UEPL site for an EHS Audit on 15th-16th September 2019
Environmental, Health and Social
(EHS) team of CDC visited HO
on 15.09.2019 and UEPL site on
16.09.2019 along with third party
EHS consultant to assess the EHS
performance of UEPL against the
objectives. UEPL showcased various
measures in terms of energy efficiency
measures (e.g., replacement of
conventional lighting with LED
lighting, implementing roof top
solar, etc.), compliance with labour
and other laws and social inclusion
(women toll collectors at toll plaza
etc.). CDC team planted trees at toll
plaza. CDC team appreciated the
efforts made by HC1/ UEPL to achieve
good level of EHS in its operations and
identified some areas of improvement,
which shall be implemented.

Steps Highway STEPS HIGHWAY – All Around Fitness

HC 1 initiated “STEPS HIGHWAY” w.e.f.
20th September, 2019 to encourage
employees to keep fit by walking
daily. This year’s Steps Highways is
designed in three phases of 4-5 weeks
each. In phase one, 34 participants
are grouped in 17 pairs based on last
year’s performance e.g., the first and
the last scorer of last year were paired
together. All participants record their
steps daily.
Both participants need to walk a
minimum of 5000 steps to score a
point for their team. In subsequent
phases rules were designed to coax
low performers to improve and
contribute to team. All the best for all
the participants.

Gender Sensitisation Training

The training on Gender Sensitization at HC1 and sites is being carried
out to create awareness among employees regarding appropriate
behaviour towards women especially in the context of Sexual
Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and
Redressal) Act, 2013. The training assisted participants to understand
the formation of stereotypes in gender, gender differences in approach
/ communication, unwelcome comments, gestures and behaviour
in indecent context,  guidelines to determine and recognize these
behaviours, procedures to deal with them, preventive and remedial
procedures at workplace to ensure workplace safety for women. Case
studies helped participants to understand and analyze several remedies
to prevent insensitive behaviour. Participants were encouraged to
create safe working place and be a change agent for developing strong
society and nation.
