No, SL-GPCQCOF Page 2 of 5 10 2.0 32 4.0 4d 42 43 44 Scope: ‘The scope of this procedure covers the requirements for carrying out Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) of the Calm Buoy parts during production as required by the Project Specification. References: Specification —Fabrication of Single Point Mooring Buoys (SPM) - MOQ-G-800-SP-1060-001. Structural steel welding code-AWS DI.1 SME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Sec. VIII Process Piping Code- ASME B31.3. Personnel Requirements: Qualifications The technicians carrying out heat treatment shall have adequate working experience and Knowledge of electrical works as well as capable of understanding and applying the relevant heat ‘eatment procedure specifications. Safety Personnel employed for heat treatment shall be trained to be aware of the potential hazards associated the employment of electrical equipment. They shall ensure that the facilities are adequate regarding lighting, scaffolding, etc. prior to commencement of operations, Heating Elements/Equipment Requirements Heating Pads or elements - these should be secured preferably using wide mild steel banding straps, clamps or magnets and should cover an area large enough fo ensure satisfactory heating of the weldment and adjacent area. Thermocouples - these should have a valid certificate of conformance which shall indicate a tolerance of 0°C to 400°C 43°C, 400°C to 1100°C 40.75%. Means of attachment shall be capacitance discharge direct wire of size not less than 2 mm. Conductor wires shall be fixed to the workpiece no further than 6 mm apart. The junction to be insulated using high temperature putty. The thermocouples shall have valid calibration centficates. ‘Thermal insulation - either mineral wool (mini. Density 80 Kg/M’), ceramic fibre (min. density 96 Kg/ M’) or knitted silica (min. density 200 Kg/ M’) mat shall extend to a sufficient distance (min. of 300 mm) beyond the edges of the heating band in order to establish an even gradient. The insulation should be adequately secured in place. The minimum insulation shall be as directed by the client, ‘Temperature recorders - these shall be multi-channel type and be accompanied with a valid calibration certificate. Calibration certificates shall be verified before use. The recorder shall be locked when the PWHT is started and shall be opened after the PWHTT is completed. Thermocouples and positions shall be identified con the relevant temperature recorder charts by number of colours. No. 13S-GPCQC-4 Page 3 of 5 4.6 — Equipment for Electrie Resistance Method / Electric Furnace Method:- ‘The power source shall be 380/415/440 V and the transformers shall be 3 phase. ‘Temperature control equipment is either manually operated through energy regulators or automatic using modular controls. The recording of temperature shall be achieved by means of temperature/time plotters in the calibrated chart type temperature recorder. Calibration certificate of recorder and thermocouples shall be available. ‘The heating elements shall be insulated with ceramic beads and free from direct contact with the material surface. 4.6 Equipment for Diesel Burner Furnace- Automatic Oil Bumers (Diesel) with 2 nozzles each, power source 230/400-50Hz three phase. ‘The burner is equipped with a self priming pump and an Electric motor which is connected to # control panel. A diesel storage tank with 5000 liter capacity with a burner fuel supply line. 5.0 Surface Conditions and Precautions: Welds to be heat treated shall be prepared only to the extent necessary to avoid damage or short circuiting of | elements, i.e. free of coatings, grease, etc. within the heated area. | As precautionary measure, additional supports / stiffeners, if required, shall be provided in order to m / avoid possible distortion during PWHT. Weep holes shall be provided if closed box exist in the structure to be heat treated. t 6.0 Procedu 6.1 Post weld heat treatment of an item shall be carried out when all fabrication, welding and NDT are completed and the item is released for the PWHT process by all the concerned parties inclucling the client and the certifying body. 6.2 Heating, Cooling and Soaking Temperatures shall be in accordance with AWS D 1.1 and ASME B 31.3 2s applicable or as directed by Client/Certifying body, The thickness to be used in applying the PWHT shall be that of the thicker component measured at the joint. 63 Parameters like unrestricted heat/cool range, restricted heating rate, soak temperature, soak period, restricted ‘cooling rate, ete shall be in accordance with ASME Sect. VIII Div.1 and ASME B 31.3 or AWS D1.1 as applicable. Flange faces, threads and any other machined surfaces shall be suitably protected against oxidation during the PWHT cycle, ) All items shall be properly supported so that their weights do not cause sagging and distortion during the heating. ©) Items placed in the oven shall be separated and located to prevent contact with the oven sides. The QC Inspector shall prepare the package for carrying out the PWHTT. The package shall include the following = Fabrication Drawings/Isometric drawings, - NDT elearance. - Internal Release Notes duly signed. - Calibration certificates. = The PWHT cycle. (Filled format attached) The Package will be reviewed by Client prior to releasing it for PWHT. The package will then be handed over to the Technician responsible for carrying out the PWHT. The cooling shall be checked after disconnection of the power to ensure that it happens in an uniform manner. Monitoring The PWHY ‘Technician shall monitor and examine chart during PWHT to ascertain if heating rate, soak ‘temperature, soak time and cooling rate complies with requirements of the applicable code or those specified by the SBM.
