ABSTRACT

This study aims to analyze the “Effects and Influence of Peer groups to the
Behavior of Grade V Pupils of Quezon Elementary School in Quezon, Quezon SY
2013-2014.”

In order to accomplish this aim, the following specific objectives need to be

achieved:

1. To find out the demographic profiles of respondents in terms of age and

gender

2. To find out the influences of joining peer groups

3. To find out what kind of behavior pupils acquire through their peer groups

4. To find out the effects of peer groups to the values formation of the pupils

The researcher utilized survey questionnaire as the main method of data

collection. Fifty (50) Grade V pupils of Quezon Elementary School were purposively

selected as the respondents of the study.

The method applied was descriptive method. Frequencies and percentages

were used to analyze and present the gathered information. The frequencies and

percentages for dependent variables were used as statistical tool to measure the

“Influences and Effects of Peer Groups to the Behavior of Grade V Pupils of Quezon

Elementary School in Quezon, Quezon”.

Using the pertinent data gathered from fifty (50) respondents, the following

findings were obtained

It is revealed that most of the respondents are female with 28 while the male

respondents are. It is also revealed that most of the respondents belong to the age

bracket of 9-10 with 39 respondents while the age bracket of 11-12 has 11.

The respondents strongly agreed that they got the following behavior from
their peers. These behaviors are idea sharing with peer groups, religiousness, love for
nature, nationalism, patriotism, love for friends, companionship with the mean of
4.36, 4.32, 4.62, 4.62\8, 4.26, 4.44 and 4.32 respectively. It is also shown that they
agree on behaviors such as open-mindedness, being sympathetic and being merciful
with a mean of 4.14, 4.06 and 3.94 respectively.
The average weighted mean of 4.31 indicates that the respondents are affected
by the peer groups in terms of acquiring behaviors.
The most common effect of peer group as to parents was indicator 3 (They
teach me to make wise decisions) with the mean of 4.94 and it was interpreted as
“Strongly Agree” by the Likert Scale.
Likewise, in terms of classmates, the most common effect was indicator 3
(They invite me to play sports) with the mean of 4.92 and it was interpreted as “
Strongly Agree”.
Moreover, in terms of friends, indicator 1 (They introduce me to their other
friends) showed the highest mean of 4.44 indicating that the respondents are affected
by their friends.
The overall mean of 4.25 indicates that the respondents were highly affected
by the peer group especially in acquiring behavior.
Since the computed value of 10.05 is greater than the f-tabular value of 3.59 at

0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis is rejected. This means that the

influence of peer group to the behavior of pupils is significant.
