ANSWERS Hurdle 017 :

Ans 1 : Only statement 2 is false.

Statement 1 is true. As the number of students

increase the variable cost will be shared by more
students so the per head cost will reduce.

Statement 2 is false.

For statement 3 and 4 :

Let the fixed amount be X and the variable amount
which is to
be shared by the students be Y.
so we have x+  y/30= 5900  (i)
and x+ y/45 = 5600     (ii)
solving the above two equation we have (y/30)- (y/45)=
300
or y/90= 300 so Y= 27,000
Putting value of Y in (i) we get X = 5000.

So minimum possible cost will be more than 5000 and

maximum cost will be when only 1 student goes to
picnic and than he will have to pay 5000 +27,000=
32000. So both statement 3 and 4 are true.
Hence only Statement 2 is false.

Ans 2 : Statement 1, 3 and 4 are true.

Statement 1 is true .
Let the fixed amount be X and the variable amount
which is to be shared by the students be Y.
so we have x+  y/34= 8,360  (i)
and x+ y/48 = 7,905     (ii)
solving the above two equation we have (y/34)- (y/48)=
455
solving this we get  Y= 53,040
Putting value of Y in (i) we get X = 6800.
So cost for 65  students will be 6800 + 53,040/65 =
7,616

Statement 2 is false.

Statement 3 is true is minimum possible cost is more

than 6800 and is also more than 6500.
Statement 4 is true as maximum possible cost is 6800 +
53040 = 59,840 which is less than 62,000.

Ans 3 : Solving the two equations we get fixed cost as

7,200 and variable cost as 32,760 which is to be
distributed among the number of tables manufactured.

So if you manufacture 70 tables you will have to pay

7200 +32760/70  = 7,668.
Hence both the statements are true. So answer is
Option 1.

Q26) SUMMARY :-
The recent hike in petroleum prices has been purely from the
political drama and system anomalies being overlooked to enable the
government to pursue their controversial plans. The excessive gain
from excise and customs' duties that government leverages from
petroleum sector explains it all. An extremely gentle work,
government has even welcomed an increase in prices simply because it
would give more revenues. The subsidy and sensitivity of handling
LPG is further used to provide remorse and explain the price hike.
Even though India is self-sufficient in crude Oil, prices are
determined through levying dozens of taxes, making them share more
than 50% of retailer's price paid by the consumer.
Moreover, the private sector companies are benifitting more than the
public sector ones, due to unsubsidised oils and tax
exemtion on exports. Thus, this article provides a darker picture of
Finance Ministry's felony in devaluing the consumers.
