FILM REVIEW

“The Article 15”

One of the finest ways to understand the first impression of any culture, is cinema or film. It
is the most persuasive and crude way to handle first hand understanding of any specific
culture, community, and ethnicities. Movies are just like mirrors which reflect the social
values, its norms and other minor to major aspects of society through many mediums but
movies are the best and simplest way to understand and specific culture.
The movie which I am going to review, shares a very serious issue of Indian society and its
different classes. The movie ‘Article 15’, released in year 2019 made an attempt to reflect the
very serious and inappropriate norms of untouchability, poor mind-set, suppression and
negotiation of the rights of marginalised communities existing in Indian society.
The basic plot of the movie criticised the issues of negotiation of the rights of marginalised
communities in whole through one case depicted in the movie. The movie starred by
Ayushman Khurrana as leading role of a Brahmin IPS officer, who struggles to solve the case
of a marginalised man who recently filed a case of kidnapping of his daughter and by the end
he finds the dead body of the girl, gang-raped before her murder. The scenario pushes the IPS
officer to take an honest and quick response against the culprits who have a firm political
relation.
Basically movie questions us to rethink the issue of caste, creed, untouchability, and
suppression of poor people. It asks us to stop and stand against dysfunctional rooted system
of police who is yet not ready to listen poor people and to their rights. As titled, it delineates
the importance and rights of marginalised class and rights for justice deemed and written in
our constitution. One of the sensational and critical movies of the Bollywood, Article 15 is an
attempt to make aware of people about their rights.
We need such movies to take care of and pay attention and support them. Definitely one
should go for the movie to get himself aware about caste based discrimination and also know
the consequences of such case depicted in the movie.
