Chapter I
“Defining Globalization”

I. Introduction:

No society’s, nation or country is totally separated from the world events. This

can be seen from the histories of different nations. Such national histories are not

isolated or totally separated from the history of the world. Everything is actually

considered as interconnected. Social problems that are happening in the local setting

could be seen as a ramification of international events that takes place in different

geographical location. A great example of this would be the age of enlightenment and

industrialization in Europe. These intellectual and social movements happened mainly in

Europe but it affected almost all parts of the modern world and probably was the cause

of modernity itself to takes place. Due to the increasing liberal ideas, it reached the

Philippines that escalated to a full-blown revolution and social movements that

happened in the past. This interconnectedness that is happening in one location to

many other shows that our world is becoming a single space which is brought by the

globalization.

II. Discussion:

What is Globalization? Globalization refers to the processes by which more

people across large distances become connected in more and different ways. They can

become connected very simply by doing or experiencing the same sort of thing. A great

example for this is Japanese cuisines globalizes when more people on different

continents enjoy the taste of the sushi. The spread of sushi involved not just a shared
consumer experience, it also made many American fishermen dependent on Japanese

market as tuna caught off the US coast is sold and shipped overseas. This link makes

more people more interdependent because it leads to create new organizational form as

regional institution go global or new ones take shape on the world stage. The

international law governs who can fish in coastal waters, and the World Trade

Organization handles disputes between members, including the United States and

Japan. In that way, globalization exists. Through globalization, there is a growing

diffusion wherein the tastes, beliefs, dress styles, preferences, ways of thinking, acting

or feeling can easily spread widely. Such diffusion increased greatly in recent decades

as the infrastructure for communication and transportation improved dramatically,

connecting groups, institutions and countries in new ways. Globalization defines as

deterritorialization in which the physical space loses their hold on social relations. This

means that globalization cannot easily stop it is unbearable because it occurs or

growing continuously. The next definition of globalization is referred as the process of

Neoliberalism. In which globalization is a process of expanding capitalism across the

globe as powerful economic actors who seek profit in global market and impose their

rules everywhere. From the word itself liberalism, it promotes economic cooperation

among states and international institutions to create an economic interdependence.

Globalization is intensifying a lot of different aspects. It depends on the mind of people

on how they will perceive the meaning of globalization, its either positive or negative.

III. Conclusion:

Defining globalization leads different people to have different views. Just like the

Korean Pentecostal missionary the meaning of globalization for them is a new

opportunity to spread faith and convert lost souls abroad. Some people may define

globalization as a positive thing where in through the process of this interconnectedness

they were able to improve the way of our living. This could be seen that people are

enjoying the effects of globalization. Like the technologies that we are using in our daily

lives, it helps us to make our world easy and maximize our time by doing the things that

we need to do. Through connection from different countries we will able to build a

rapport and share the resources that we have. Also, by helping other countries to solve

their problems and issues around their country. Those are things that brings a positive

impact to our global economy. Another different meaning, a Filipino global justice

advocate, the meaning of globalization means rules of the global game that favor the

rich North over the poor South. Unfortunately, some people won’t agree with the

positive impact of globalization. Some people define globalization as an expansion of

capitalism and colonialization. Wherein those developed countries take advantage the

condition of the developing countries and try to dominate them by investing their

business and the one who invest will gain more than the one who owns that country

itself. Another instance is developing countries lose their sovereignty because

developed countries tries to rule over their countries by offering the developing

countries things what they called help but the truth is, there is a hidden agenda of

helping them. Therefore, I conclude that globalization has two sides it depends on a

person whether what is the most dominant side between the positive and negative.

IV. Personal Insights:

For my personal opinion about globalization, it is something that we should talked

about for us to have knowledge not only for the things that happens in our country but
for the things that happens in the global economy. As a student, I see globalization as a

positive thing where in without globalization where are we now. We cannot improve the

way we live, the way we think, the way we act, also the way we view things when we

are blinded to the things that happens in our country and in our global economy.

Globalization made a huge impact to all of us. Yes, it is given that the globalization

prevails, an increase and intensification of global problems but it would never happen

when we as a human trying to use our resources effectively and efficiently without

making our world as a competing world, I think no problems and greediness will happen

except for natural or environmental problems. Globalization is good no matter what the

consequences we are all experiencing and taking the benefits of globalization.

“Socrates Philosophical Anthropology”

I. Introduction:

Intro:

Socrates of Athens (470/469–399 BCE) is perhaps the most famous philosopher of all time. Yet

there is a striking contrast between his extraordinary celebrity and what we know for certain about him.

We know for sure that he spent his entire life in Athens, philosophizing in public and private places. We

also know that he left no written works. What we know of his life and teaching comes only for a small

part through the writings of contemporaries (notably Aristophanes), and mostly through the works of

his many disciples, among whom stand the most prominent philosophers of the time (Plato,

Antisthenes, Aristippus, Xenophon, Aeschines of Sphettos). None of these witnesses was concerned to

record what Socrates did and said according to the modern standards of accurateness. Rather, each of

them depicted his own view of Socrates, competing with one another as to which portrait rendered the

true spirit of Socraticism. Most of what we know of Socrates also comes from later sources, which in

turn depend on the writings of his contemporaries, most of which have been lost. Therefore, as a

consequence of Socrates’ exceptional impact and avoidance of writing down his own thoughts, there is

neither direct nor neutral access to Socrates’ life and doctrine.
