Why we should write and publish scientific papers?

 Altruism

peer reviewed science publications are the predominant method today for disseminating and
archiving scientific advances. Publication is the most straightforward way to contribute to the
advancement of a field.

 Self interest

publishing papers bring tangible benefits such as boosting credentials and recognition. It is
frequently accompanied by direct or indirect monetary rewards and opportunities for career and
advancement.

BASIC RESEARCH VS. APPLIED RESEARCH

 Basic research

It is driven by a scientist’s curiosity or interest in a scientific question, the main motivation is to


expand a man’s knowledge, not to create or invent something

Applied research

- It is designed to solve practical problems of the modern worls rather than to acquire knowledge
for knowledge’s sake
- Goal is to improve human condition.
