Consider how prenatal development influences development after birth.

A new book was published in September, 2010 entitled Origins: How the Nine Months
Before Birth Shape the Rest of Our Lives, by Annie Murphy Paul. It brings together
research about how the prenatal environment has long term effects on development
including obesity, schizophrenia, and reactions to stress. Please read the following
article by Paul from Time magazine and discuss the reactions, linking the ideas to
course content. You should also read an interview with Paul in Scientific American.
Discuss the limitations of correlational research as a limitation to these findings. Is this
knowledge helpful for pregnant women or harmful? Explain your thinking.
