CADETS AFTERNOON SPEAKING


POLITEKNIK PELAYARAN SURABAYA

Topic : Getting Started


Sub Topic : Spelling Bee
Meeting : 2 / October 10, 2019
Time : 60 – 90 minutes
Lesson Title : How I Spell things in a vessel

A. LESSON OBJECTIVES
By the end of the meeting, cadets are expected to be able:
1. To demonstrate their ability in spelling.
2. To know some tools in a vessel.

B. TOOLS, MATERIALS, AND SOURCES


1. Tools
a. 5 x 6 cm blank paper
b. Pens, or markers

List of tools in a vessel

C. LEARNING ACTIVITIES
1. Pre Activities(20-35 minutes)
 All cadets seat together in a circle
 Greeting
 The teacher will ask them about alphabet according to International Maritime
Alphabet
 the cadets will be asked to pronounce their names using International Maritime
Alphabet

2. Whilst Activities (30 – 45 minutes)


 Tutor explains about how to spell a word in English alphabet
 Tutor asks the cadets to spell some words using English alphabet
 Tutor drills the cadets with the correct alphabet spelling
 Tutor divides the students into four teams.
 Tutor asks one player from each team come to the board.
 Tutor gives each player a marker
 Have the second player from each team to stand bit far from the first player.
 The second player will spell the words that the teacher loudly
 A second player from each team then comes to the board and the game
continues with a new word.

3. Post Activities (10 minutes)


 Tutor makes a brainstorm with the students about where and when these skills
can be used by them
 Some of cadets will be asked to review the lesson
 Tutor asks the cadets about the difficulty in learning process
