RAAS
“R
RUNWAY AWARENESS and ADVISORY SYSTEM”

• Optional software enhancement hosted in the Enhanced Ground

Proximity Warning Module (EGPWM)
• Uses same audio system as EGPWS for aural alerts
• Provides aural advisories to increase situational awareness during
taxi, take-off, approach, landing and roll-out operations
• Advisories are based on aircraft position
compared to airport runways contained
in the Terrain Database
• Data used by the system comes from:
• GPS
• Runway database
• Two types of advisories
• Routine
• Non-Routine
• Female voice used for advisories

RAAS PRECAUTIONS

• Distance advisories should

never be used by the pilot as a
means to manage braking
action upon landing or during
a rejected take-off.
• Distance advisories do not
ensure the aircraft can or
cannot:
• Stop before hold lines,
runway edges or the
runway’s end
• Land or take-off from a
runway
• “Approaching Runway”
advisories do not ensure the
aircraft will land on the
identified runway

WHEN TO INHIBIT RAAS

• Any doubt about RAAS functionality

• If RAAS may interfere with ATC communications or briefings
• When a NOTAM modifies the departure or arrival runway
• When taking off or landing on a runway less than 5,000’
• When the airport is not in the Terrain database or is not RAAS qualified

RAAS AUTOMATIC INHIBIT

• If RAAS detects a Rejected Take-off (RTO) condition, advisories are

temporarily inhibited except for “Distance Remaining”.
• No visual CAS message or voice message associated with this condition
are provided.

RAAS TEST

• The following conditions must exist to get a test of the RAAS

• RAAS is available and enabled
• RAAS is not inhibited on the SENSORS page
• IRS are aligned (NAV mode)

• Testing the EGPWS will also test the RAAS

• A good test is indicated by a final aural alert at the end of the
EGPWS alerts:
