Argentina is one of those countries best known for their delicious gastronomy. It combines
the flavors of European and indigenous food, which is why we encourage you to try the
incredible food of this country in your next visit to Buenos Aires. In case you’re not sure
what’s the best dish or you have no idea what to eat in Argentina, you will find the 5
dishes you have to try when you’re in this beautiful country.
1. Asado Also known as parrilla it is a delicious grilled meat that they usually combine with
chimichurri sauce, the country's go to condiment, natiio. Asado is the national dish. It
comes from the country’s cowboys who would subsist on the abundant cows dotting the
country’s plains. You cannot visit Argentina and not try this delicious dish.
2. Provoleta Provoleta is a typical cheese in Argentina that is a little pungent and sharp.
The nearly-melted cheese is crispy and slightly caramelized on the outside while is gooey
and Smokey on the inside. Some people put a spoonful of chimichurri on it's top and it
tastes amazingly delicious.
3. Choripan Choripan is the ultimate Argentinean street food. It consists of a pork and beef
sausage grilled, topped chimichurri, of course, and served between slices of crusty bread.
This is a really typical dish in Argentina and probably you will see everyone eating this on
the street, you have to try if you visit.
4. Alfajores If you’re looking for something sweet, you definitely have to try alfajores.
Argentina is the world’s largest consumer of this dessert. The alfajores consist of several
biscuits joined together with a caramel filling and chocolate candies. You can also find
crumbly shortbread-like biscuits sandwiching jams or dulce de leche.
5. Empanadas A food that you can really find in almost all South America but that has a
very special recipe in Argentina. This hot, cheap and portable meal is popular amongst
working classes.
Empanadas are deep-fried or baked, then filled with sweet and savory stuffing, depending
on the province. In Argentina, they have empanadas with everything.
Dessert empanadas are commonly packed with quince jam, sweet potato paste, or dulce
de leche, and sprinkled with cinnamon, sugar or sweet raisins, as is typical in Cordoba.
