GH How The Show

The Shutdown!
Since April 3, GENERAL HOSPITAL has been running
Flashback Friday repeats in order to extend its stock-
pile of ready-to-air episodes. But how far will that
take it? And should the coronavirus pandemic keep
the show dark past the point at which it still has new
material to air, how would it go on? At least a couple
of its Emmy-winning actors have an idea.

The Ratings Are Up!

Call it the silver lining in the dark cloud of the shut-
downs: As most of the country stayed home the
week of March 23, all four soaps enjoyed a ratings
surge. According to TVLine.com, GH drew its biggest
audience in two years, as did THE BOLD & THE BEAU-
TIFUL. Meanwhile, DAYS OF OUR LIVES garnered its
best numbers in more than a year, and THE YOUNG &
THE RESTLESS’ ratings hit at an 11-month high.

GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Ashton Arbab (Dev)
turned his Soaps In Depth photo shoot into

N ot that long ago, GENERAL HOSPI-

by Studio In Depth for a fun-filled photo
shoot. And the young performer’s enthusi-
asm was so contagious, we wouldn’t be sur-

get you dancing in your blue suede shoes!
Arbab is footloose and fancy-free!
“I was first on stage when I was 5
years old, and I’ve been entertain-
ing my family ever since,” he
shared with a smile.

Studio In Depth’s mascot,

Hoda (the photographer’s
dog) took an immediate
liking to Arbab, and vice
versa. “I always have fun
doing photo shoots, but with Hoda here, it makes it even
better!” By the end of the shoot, Arbab said, “Hanging out
with Hoda reminds me that I want a dog for myself!” Editor’s
note: Just a few weeks later, Arbab brought home a new
four-legged family member — and Mom totally approved!

“I’ve loved
Elvis since I was
born,” insisted
Arbab. Some of that
might be in his blood, as mom
Constance — who was standing by off
camera — was born and raised in Memphis, just a
few miles from Graceland. “I have always been
around Elvis’ music, jamming to it with all my
family and relatives.” Arbab’s grandmother was a fan,
too, even before the would-be star’s career took off.
“My Grandma Mimi actually had her gas pumped by
Elvis when he worked at the gas station when he was
younger,” the actor told us. Of course, if Elvis was the
topic, the 15-year-old ball of energy was going to
give a full-blown performance of “Viva Las Vegas”
for his audience — again, his mom and photogra-
pher Jim Warren. “I love singing Elvis music and
dancing like him because he’s like nobody else,”
said Arbab. “He’s so unique and different that it
makes it so fun to impersonate him. Of course, I
have to lift my lip up and get into the low voice.”
