were outlined in a draft
transition plan released
this week.
The document describes
the next steps in the cre-
ation of a regional fire
department involving Scio,
Webster and Dexter town-
ships, as well as Dexter
Village.
First, a new fire admin-
istrative board will be
formed, and an inter-local
agreement formed under
Public Act 7 will be the

responds to calls using cat-
egory 1a protocol, meaning
firefighters go out on all
calls without prejudice,
which will be the new
department’s standard.
Regional members of

ing the formation have
been calling for more
inter-department train-
ing between Scio and the
area fire department in an
effort to begin stimulate

Lincoln couple will honor history

It’s one thing to pose for
pictures or recite quota-
tions in a hammy histori-
cal impersonation, but it’s
quite another to do what
Fred and Bonnie Priebe do.
The couple, who has
been in public education
since 1969, does its best
to “be” Abraham and
Mary Lincoln in as much
thought as likeness.
“Our research is
extensive in many forms,
because like with a
research paper you want
to get everything directly
from the original sources,”
Fred Priebe said.
The couple will be at
Gordon Hall, first for
a benefit dinner “An
1861 Evening with the
Lincolns” on June 11 at 7
p.m. and then during the
Civil War Days celebration
later this summer.
The Priebes bring a lot
to the table. Fred began
role-playing President
Lincoln with his wife as
Mrs. Lincoln 15 years
ago after he participated
in a role playing activity
at Greenfield Village in
Dearborn.
The couple goes to
Lincoln conventions, week-
end events and meets with
authors who write about
Lincoln and his wife to this
day.
“The key is to find the
best sources so we don’t get
distorted by re-enactors,”
Fred Priebe said.
The couple takes choice
books, vetted by their
research as the most accu-
rate, and builds seminars
around those works, bring-
ing the material to life for
those who witness their
craft.
That’s the difference
between the Priebes and
other Lincolns.
