AVEVA Licensing System 4.1.0.3

Full Fix Release 30391
Windows Server 2019, 2016, 2012R2;
Windows 10, 8.1
This letter introduces and describes the release which is supported on the indicated platforms.

This release contains the AVEVA Licensing System 4.1.0.3 that comprises the RULES server, the
Flex licence server, the ALS console and updated documents. This release provides support for
running a license server on Windows Server 2019. The server processes have been rebuilt with the
latest vendor libraries as shown below.

The components installable from this release are as follows:

Version
Component Name
Number
lservnt.exe (RMS License Server) 9.5.0.221
Wlmadmin.exe (RMS Administration Tool) 9.2.1.11
cadcentre.exe (Flex License Server) 8.0.0.0
lmgrd.exe (Flex License Server) 11.16.5.1
ALSConsole.exe 4.1.0.0
AVEVALogAgent.exe (Usage Log Transfer) 4.3.0.3
AVEVA_RULES_Server.exe (RULES License Server) 4.1.0.0

Please do not attempt to run this product on the same server as AVEVA Flexman 5.2, running
an older cadcentre.exe daemon, or any earlier releases of AVEVA Licensing (RMS License
Server). Before installing it, stop and remove them – you can save any old license files for
emergency rollback recovery.

Important: AVEVA Insight

Existing versions of Insight (2.1 and below) will not work with ALS4. If you wish to continue to run
Insight you must keep an ALS 2.0 instance. Please note you cannot run ALS2.0 and ALS 4.0 (or
ALS 3.0) on the same machine at the same time.

ALS Installation
This version will install over the top of an earlier working AVEVA Licensing System. For full detail
please see refer to AVEVA Licensing System 4.1 Installation Guide.

Upgrading from 2.0 or 3.0

Your existing license file and logs will be preserved when upgrading. Your version 2 license file will
continue to work with the new ALS 4.1 server.

Product Release Letter
Upgrading from 1.3, 1.2, 1.0, or 1.1.1
Your existing license file and logs will be preserved when upgrading. You will however have to
obtain a new version 2 licence to continue working. Your existing licence (version 1) will not work
with ALS 4.1.

This version of AVEVA licensing WILL work alongside any other RMS servers for example AVEVA
laser modeller; it WILL also work alongside any other software FlexLM servers.

This version of AVEVA Licensing supports installation of redundant server licenses.

It is NOT POSSIBLE to combine another RMS product’s license keys with this RMS server.
It is NOT POSSIBLE to combine another Flex product’s license keys with this Flex server.

Prerequisite for this release – server operating system:

Minimum Supported 32bit O/S Version Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Business Editions
Maximum Supported 32bit O/S Version Windows 10 Professional and Enterprise Editions
Maximum Supported 64bit O/S Version Windows Server 2019,
Windows 10 Professional and Enterprise Editions

Note that recommended/supported hardware and software configurations are constantly subject to review, so please
consult the AVEVA support web pages for the latest recommendations.

Prerequisite for this release - .NET Framework version.

ALS 4.1 requires .NET 4.7.2 to be installed. If required, the installer provided will automatically
install .NET 4.7.2 prior to installing the ALS 4.1 software. In certain circumstances, the .NET 4.7.2
installation may fail, aborting the entire installation. For example, missing updates which Windows
deems as mandatory may block the .NET 4.7.2 installation. In this situation the underlying problem
may not be reported when running the AVEVA setup.exe. If ALS 4.1 does not install, the .NET 4.7.2
install can be carried out separately by double-clicking on the file “NDP461-KB3102436-x86-x64-
AllOS-ENU.exe” in the DotNet472 directory of the installation package. Any issues reported by this
installer should be rectified before continuing with the ALS 4.1 installation.
Note: the .NET 4.7.2 install does not prompt for a system restart. In some cases, forms in the ALS
console application do not behave correctly until the system is restarted. Hence it is recommended
that the system is rebooted after a .NET 4.7.2 install

Prerequisite for this release – TCP port for RULES server

The RULES server component of the ALS communicates with AVEVA products over TCP using the
port configured for RMS +1. By default, the RMS port number is 4545 and the RULES port is 4546.

Prior to ALS 3.0 the RULES server was only used for the licensing of a single AVEVA product,
AVEVA Insight. In the future more products will require access to the RULES server to be licensed
and so will require the port configured for the RULES server to be open on any firewall between the
client and the server.
