Persons and Family Relations is a 4-unit subject. Portions of the Civil Code such as the
provisions on Preliminary Title, Persons, Funerals, Use of Surnames, Absence and the Civil
Register as well as the Family Code of the Philippines form part of the bulk of the study of
the subject. Special laws, allied to the Family Code and the pertinent provisions of the Civil
Code, and jurisprudence are components also of the study of the course.     

Study on the statutory provisions on persons and family relations under the Preliminary,
Human Relations, Titles I, II, X, XIII, XIV and XVI [Persons, Civil Personality, Natural &
Juridical Persons, Citizenship, Domicile, Funeral, Use of Surnames, Absence and Civil
Register] part of the Civil Code of the Philippines and the Family Code of the Philippines.
Part of the coverage would be the definition, essential and formal requisites of marriage,
rights and obligations of spouses, property relations between spouses, Family Home, valid,
voidable and void marriages, legal separation, paternity and filiation, adoption, support,
custody and emancipation. Specials laws for the protection of children, anti-violence against
women and their children, adoption, Solo Parents Welfare act and such other relevant laws
would form part of the course.

Our course is divided into 8 modules. For the first part, which is Modules 1 to 4, the
coverage would be Articles 1 up to 51 of the Civil Code and Article 01 up to 44 of the Family
Code. Special Laws, rules and jurisprudence would be discussed along our way towards
the end of the mid-term. At the end of Modules 1 up to 4, we will have a Quiz and thereafter
the Mid-term Examination. For the second part, which is Modules 5 up to 8, Articles 45 up to
253 of the Family Code will be discussed together with the other provisions in the Civil
Code  as well as related special laws, rules and jurisprudence. At the end of Modules 5 up
to 8, we will have a Quiz and thereafter, we will have our Final examination.

Module 7 - Articles 209 up to 253 of FC and additional cases.Book

Week 16-17
Module 8- Articles 209 to 256 of the FC and Other provisions of the Civil Code.Book
Week 18 - Final Examination

Assignment
All assignments from Modules 1 up to 8 would include digests of cases varying in numbers.

Reading and memorization is a normal activity as recitations are required.

Forum
Most of our classroom discussions would be via video conferencing either by Zoom, microsoft teams
and/or any other platforms as may be assigned for us.

Quizzes
2 major quizzes are allocated with each to be designed to validate what you have learned.
