Configuration Manual
In this configuration manual, all devices refer to case-shaped broadband products in

V100R002, unless otherwise stated. The features of V100R002 involve all the features
of the case-shaped broadband products in V100R002.

Abstract: This document describes the configurations of Quidway S5300 series Metro
Ethernet switches (hereinafter referred to as the S5300), including the product
overview, basic networking mode, general configuration principle, chassis
configuration, interface configuration, and configurations of other system accessories.
This document can only be used internally to guide telecom design, commercial
quotation, contract configuration, and actual sales activities. This document is a
technical clarification provided by the R&D Department for the Marketing Department.
To ensure the feasibility of a contract, the marketing personnel must note that the
contents of this document cannot be directly written into the contract. If the
commitments of the R&D Department are required, the commitment workflow of the
Marketing Department must be followed.
Document management: This document is drafted and revised by the PDT of
case-shaped broadband products, reviewed by the R&D, Marketing, Configuration,
and Technical Support departments. The first draft is provided during the application
phase of the pilot office, and will be updated regularly in the future. This document is
released through the Document Platform of Market Technologies database. Anyone
receiving the document must ensure the confidentiality of this document and avoid

1 Product Overview
The S5300s are Metro Ethernet broadband access devices that are newly developed
by Huawei. The S5300 can be used by various network operators, institutions, and
enterprises, such as China Telecom, CNC, China Mobile, China Unicom, SARFT,
China TieTong, banks, police stations, tax stations, schools, and overseas data
communications markets. The S5300 can be sold with related broadband products,
routers, and transmission products of Huawei.
1.1 Basic Configuration Diagram

The S5300 adopts the integrated chassis design.
1.1.1 Basic Features of the S5328C
The S5328C provides 24 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) interfaces, one console interface for
local configuration, and one management network interface. The S5328C-SI provides
four combo interfaces and one Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. The S5328C
provides one Switch Control Unit (SCU) that supports a switching capability of 88
Gbit/s. The S5328C supports two 10GE cards, four GE cards, and stacking cards. Two
10GE cards and stacking cards cannot be configured at the same time, four GE cards
and stacking cards cannot be configured at the same time, and two 10GE cards and
four GE cards cannot be configured at the same time. Figure 1 shows the appearance
of the S5328C.

1.1.2 Basic Features of the S5352C
The S5352C provides 48 GE interfaces, one console interface for local configuration,
and one management network interface. The S5352C-SI provides one USB interface.
The S5352C provides one SCU that supports a switching capability of 136 Gbit/s. The
S5352C supports two 10GE cards, four GE cards, and stacking cards. Two 10GE
cards and stacking cards cannot be configured at the same time, four GE cards and
stacking cards cannot be configured at the same time, and two 10GE cards and four
GE cards cannot be configured at the same time. Figure 2 shows the appearance of
the S5352C.

1.1.3 Basic Features of the S5328C-24S
The S5328C-24S provides 24 GE optical interfaces, four combo interfaces, one

console interface for local configuration, and one management network interface. The
S5328C-24S provides one SCU that supports a switching capability of 88 Gbit/s. The
S5328C-24S supports two 10GE cards, four GE cards, and stacking cards. Two 10GE
cards and stacking cards cannot be configured at the same time, four GE cards and
stacking cards cannot be configured at the same time, and two 10GE cards and four
GE cards cannot be configured at the same time. Figure 3 shows the appearance of
the S5328C-24S.

1.1.4 Basic Features of the S5324TP
The S5324TP provides 24 GE interfaces, four combo interfaces, one console interface
for local configuration, one management network interface, and one USB interface.
The S5324TP provides one SCU that supports a switching capability of 36 Gbit/s. The
S5324TP supports stacking cards. Figure 4 shows the appearance of the S5324TP.

1.1.5 Basic Features of the S5348TP
The S5348TP provides 48 GE interfaces, four combo interfaces, one console interface
for local configuration, one management network interface, and one USB interface.
The S5348TP provides one SCU that supports a switching capability of 72 Gbit/s. The
S5348TP supports stacking cards. Figure 5 shows the appearance of the S5348TP.

1.1.6 Basic Features of the S5328C-PWR
The S5328C-PWR provides 24 GE interfaces, one console interface for local

configuration, and one management network interface. The S5328C-PWR-SI provides
four combo interfaces and one USB interface. Each GE interface can provide a
maximum of 15.4 W power supply. The S5328C-PWR provides one SCU that supports
a switching capability of 88 Gbit/s. The S5328C-PWR supports two 10GE cards, four
GE cards, and stacking cards. Two 10GE cards and stacking cards cannot be
configured at the same time, four GE cards and stacking cards cannot be configured
at the same time, and two 10GE cards and four GE cards cannot be configured at the

1.1.8 Basic Features of the S5324TP-PWR

S5324TP-PWR provides one SCU that supports a switching capability of 88 Gbit/s.

S5324TP-PWR.

1.1.9 Basic Features of the S5348TP-PWR
The S5348TP-PWR provides 48 GE interfaces, four combo interfaces, one console

interface for local configuration, one management network interface, and one USB
interface. Each GE interface can provide a maximum of 15.4 W power supply. The
S5348TP-PWR provides one SCU that supports a switching capability of 88 Gbit/s.
The S5348TP-PWR supports stacking cards. Figure 9 shows the appearance of the
S5348TP-PWR.

1.2 User Interfaces

The S5300 provides Ethernet user interfaces, including GE interfaces and 10 GE
interfaces, to interconnect with other network devices. The S5300 provides GE
electrical interfaces, GE optical interfaces, and 10 GE optical interfaces. These
Ethernet interfaces support standard Ethernet encapsulation and can interwork with
the standard Ethernet interfaces of other manufacturers.
The S5300 provides the following Ethernet interface features:

SFP module interface and XFP module interface

Electrical interface
PoE conforming to 802.3af standards (supported only by the S5300-PWR series
switches)
Before using an interface, you must pay attention to the detailed network requirements,
including:
(1) Transmission rate of the interface, such as 1 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s.
(2) Physical features of an interface: You must determine the type of the interface
(electrical interface or optical interface), and the type of the connector, that is, Square
Connector (SC) or Lucent Connector (LC). If the interface is an optical interface, you
must determine the type of the optical fiber (single-mode or multi-mode).
(3) Maximum data transmission distance, such as 100 m, 0.5 km, 2 km, and 10 km.
Then, select proper optical transceivers of different types.
The maximum transmission distances supported by the interfaces of the S5300 are as
follows:
GE electrical interface: 100 m
GE optical interface: 2 km and 15 km for the Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP)
optical module; 15 km for the single-fiber bidirectional optical module; 40 km, 80 km,
and 100 km in the environment of the temperature specification reduced to 45°C for
use
Downstream optical interface on the S5328C-24S: 2 km and 15 km for the Fast
Ethernet (FE) optical interface (the SFP optical module); 15 km for the single-fiber
bidirectional optical module; 40 km, 80 km, and 100 km in the environment of the
temperature specification reduced to 45°C for use
10 GE optical interface: 0.3 km, 10 km, and 40 km for the 10-Gigabit Small
Form-Factor Pluggable transceiver (XFP) optical module
1.3 Installation Environment Description

The chassis of the S5300s can be divided into two types according to the dimension
(width x depth x height): 442 mm x 220 mm x 43.6 mm for the S5324TP-SI and 442
mm x 420 mm x 43.6 mm for non-S5324TP-SI switches. The chassis can be installed
on an ordinary worktable, a standard European Telecommunications Standards
Institute (ETSI) front-access cabinet (N63 cabinet), or a standard International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 297 cabinet (N66, N68, or N610 cabinet).For
details, see the Quidway S5300 Metro Ethernet Switches Installation Guide.

The maximum power consumption of the non-S5300-PWR is 100 W.

The S5300 supports the Direct Current (DC) power supply with the input voltage
ranging from –36 V to –72 V.
The S5300 also supports the Alternating Current (AC) power supply with the input
voltage ranging from 90 V to 264 V.
Non-S5324TP-PWR switches and non-S5348TP-PWR switches include power
modules.
The S5300-PWR switches can be configured with ordinary power modules or Power
over Ethernet (PoE) power modules. The PoE function is not provided when the
S5300-PWR switches are configured with ordinary power modules.
The PoE power supply has two specifications, that is, 250 W and 500 W. The 250 W
power supply can provide supply for only eight interfaces. If two 250 W power supplies
are adopted, SCUs and PoE power modules are backed up in 1+1 mode. The 500 W
power supply provides supply for up to 24 interfaces. Two 500 W power supplies can
provide supply for 48 interfaces. Only power modules on SCUs are backed up if two
500 W power supplies are adopted ，On the PoE device with 48 interfaces, when
more than 24 interfaces provide power for PDs, two 500 W PoE power supplies need
to be configured to meet the requirement of the PoE power. It is recommended that
power supplies with different watts not be configured together.

2.2.2 Configuration Instruction
The parts in the configuration list of the integrated device are packed into AI modules
of the host. Items related to delivery of the integrated device such as product labels,
packaging material, and delivery accessories are packed into corresponding AI
module lists of the host.
The optional configurations of the host include the 1-slot upstream interface card,
1-slot rear-installed card, and 2-slot power module.
1-slot upstream interface card: There are two optional configurations, that is, the 2-port
XGE optical interface card and 4-port GE optical interface card. The 4-port GE optical
interface card must be used with the CX22ETPB-extended channel card. If the
upstream interface card is not configured, a blank panel is automatically configured.
1-slot rear-installed card: There are two optional configurations. One configuration is
the extended channel card. If the upstream interface card is the 4-port GE optical
interface card, an extended channel card must be configured; otherwise, a blank panel
is configured. The other configuration is the stacking card that is used to implement
stacking between hosts.
2-slot power module: There are two optional configurations, that is, the AC power
module and the DC power module. You can configure one AC power module, one DC
power module, two AC power modules, two DC power modules, or mixed AC and DC
power modules. At least one power module must be configured. PoE power modules
function the same as AC power modules and are configured on only the S5300-PWR
series switches.
DC power cables delivered with the S5300 are used in the chassis, and cannot be
prolonged. To prolong the DC power cables, you must prolong the input power cables
in the power distribution box.

Select a type of AC power cables from the preceding list according to the delivery
destination. The number of AC power cables must be equal to the number of AC
power modules. By default, 3m power cables are used. Power cables of special
lengths must be separately quoted. AC power cables must provide straight female

Note: AC hosts for Chinese markets and overseas markets, AC power modules, and
PoE power modules do not contain AC power cables. Therefore, you need to manually

2.5.2 Instruction for Configuring Optical Fibers
If an optical module has independent transmitting and receiving channels, each optical
interface must be provided with two optical fibers of the same type for the transmission
of signals in both transmitting and receiving directions. If a single-fiber bidirectional
optical module is used, only one optical fiber is required.
A single-mode optical fiber must be used when the optical module is single-mode.
Similarly, a multi-mode optical fiber must be used when the optical module is
multi-mode.
Optical fibers are delivered according to the following rules:
By default, no optical fiber is delivered with the S5300.
If optical fibers are required according to the contract, you must specify the part
numbers and required quantity of optical fibers in the quotation. The production
department prepares for the delivery according to the part numbers and quantity
specified in the contract.
For optical fiber types, see section 2.5.3 "Instruction for Connecting External Optical
Fibers." Select optical fibers of proper types according to the types of the optical
modules selected for the S5300.

1) In BootROM mode, through the serial interface of the computer and the console
interface of the S5300, upgrade the software through the Xmodem protocol.
2) In configuration mode, run the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to download the
software from the FTP server and upgrade the software.
3) In configuration mode, upgrade the software through the Trivial File Transfer
Protocol (TFTP).
3.2.2 List of Devices to Be Upgraded
None.
3.2.3 Notes About the Upgrade
You can upgrade the software. After the upgrade, restart the S5300, and then run the
upgraded software.
3.2.4 Notes About Parts Replacement
No part needs to be replaced.
