Reflection on Every Kid Needs a Champion

Rita Pierson’s words are inspirational, necessary, and a great reminder of the power relationships
have in our journey through life. To me, building relationships with students is the best part of being a
teacher. My very first job as a visiting lecturer of WMSU-Pagadian ESU was teaching First Year College.
I was so nervous about teaching. I was constantly seeking advice from experienced teachers. I built
wonderful relationships of my students. I know what’s going on in their world---I’ve built and maintained
a relationship with them. I cannot wait to teach them again. I truly believe in Rita Pierson’s sentiment
when she says, “Kids don’t learn from people they don’t like!” I believe building relationships is integral
to building learners and being the greatest possible positive influence.

Reflection on The One Thing All Great Teachers Do

With this talk, Dr. Nick Fuhrman encourages us to recognize the profound personal impact that
we can have on others — both in and out of the classroom. All teachers are not created equal. Some are
frankly better than others. Great teachers go above and beyond to ensure that each child is successful.
Great teaches are able to bring the best out of every student. They are often energetic, fun, and seemingly
always at the top of the game.

Reflection on Becoming a Better Teacher

Teaching is one of the most humbling jobs you can do. Shaping and molding the future leaders of
the world is an important job. With the world relying more and more on technology, it is important to get
the youth involved at a younger age. The first step in becoming a better teacher is to be you. Students are
forgiving. They will overlook your shortcomings if they know you care about them. What matters for
students is that you are passionate and will do anything to help them learn. They know when you
genuinely care and engage them in meaningful activities. If you can do this, they will be inspired.
Inspired students are willing to listen, work hard and go the extra mile, and will even try to earn your
respect and attention. So be an original. Be yourself, and become a better teacher.
