How does the writer present his views about his experience as a television
reporter?
Answer: In the text the writer used advance vocabularies such as "ghoulish" to
show how hungry and morbidly interested the writer was as a journalist for
some striking, disastrous news. This proves the lack of feelings the writer has
and how much heartless he is as a person as he is eager for depressing news.
With the help of rule of three he writer successfully gives a faint clue of his
experience while he was crossing Somalia. "I saw a thousand, lean, scared and
betrayed faces as I crossed Somalia "This shows us that the writer will face
bigger, bitter awful news, indeed this rule of three also acts like a foreshadow.
The writer uses long complex paragraphs to his advantage. With the help of
long paragraphs the writer again shows his interest for heart striking news.
"There was the old woman who lay in her hut she recycled with every struggling
breath she took" This gives us a clear imagery of what was going on in the
reporters mind. Moreover it shows how much stonehearted he is.
The simile helped the reporter to give a vivid image of his hunger for heart
killing news. "The search for the shocking is like craving for a drug you require
heavier and more frequent doses the longer you are at it." That language device
was used to express how hungry and enthusiastic the writer was for it. This also
shows the lack of feelings in the writer as a journalist because he doesn’t care
about the person who is facing the trouble instead he just wants his attention in
the media which will give him if he publishes the depressing and disastrous
news.
