PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

Dale Gross – EDU 101 H01

Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can you

to change the world.” To me, this is the reason I love education so much. Education is not just

teaching students core subjects, but it is being apart of something much larger. It is having the

opportunity to mold the next generation into people that will one day make a difference in this

world. I understand that I cannot magically wish for students to come into my classroom and

then leave as world changers. There are many responsibilities on my end that I must achieve to

help students become something great. Respect, Structure, Communication, and Enthusiasm are

four key aspects I will present in my classroom.

Respect is a necessity to keep a classroom environment strong. This requires that both

and teacher and the students respect others and themselves. As important as it is to respect

others, you also need to respect yourself, that way you are on a strong path to success. Respect

will also go a long way to making sure that structure is present in the classroom. It is very

important to establish firm structure. This does not mean to be harsh to the students, this only

means that the students know who is in charge and how the class will be conducted. Without

structure, it will all fall apart. Communication and enthusiasm are both key to a classroom.

Communication is a necessity in the real world, so it is important that there is a flow of

communication between both the student and the teacher. Enthusiasm shows the student that the

teacher is excited to teach them and help them grow in their lives. This could show the student

how the teacher cares for them and will then inject enthusiasm in his or her life.

With these four aspects and responsibilities, a strong relationship will be established

between the teacher and the student. This relationship will help the teacher speak into the
student’s life, which eventually leads the student on a successful path to make a difference in the

world.
