 Use IS: 456-2002 and SP16. Supporting figures must be provided.

 Write your name, department and roll number on top right. Hand written assignment in A4 paper is
preferred.

Q1. Design a biaxially loaded braced Circular column for the following data:
Axial load = 1250kN
Biaxial moments Mx =126.67kNm,
My = 66.67kNm,
Unsupported length = 3.25m,
Diameter of column = 500mm,
Concrete grade = M25, Steel grade = Fe415
(Note that the loads and moments are working values)

Q2. Design the reinforcement to be provided in the short column which is subjected to Pu = 2000 k N,
Mux = 130kNm (about the major principal axis) and Muy = 120 kNm (about minor principal axis). The
unsupported length of the column is 3.2m, width b = 400mm and Depth D= 500mm. Use M25
concrete and Fe415 steel.
(Note: generally, the larger moment occurs parallel to the longer dimension, so consider this when
you orient the column).
