DEUTERONOMY 4
12 And the L-rd spoke unto you out of the
midst of the fire: you heard the voice of the
words, but saw no similitude; only you
heard a voice.
13 And he declared unto you his covenant,
which he commanded you to perform, even
ten commandments; and he wrote them
upon two tablets of stone.
14 And the L-rd commanded me at that
time to teach you statutes and judgments,
that you might do them in the land you go
over to possess it.
15 Take you therefore good heed unto
yourselves; for you saw no manner of
similitude on the day that the L-rd spoke
unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the
fire.
16 Lest you corrupt yourselves, and make a
graven image, the similitude of any figure,
the likeness of male or female.
23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest you
forget the covenant of the L-rd your G-d,
which he made with you, and make you a
graven image, or the likeness of any thing,
which the L-rd your G-d has forbidden you.
24 For the L-rd your G-d is a consuming
fire, even a jealous G-d.

DEUTERONOMY 7
25 The graven images of their gods shall you
burn with fire: you shall not desire the silver
or gold that is on them, nor take it unto you,
lest you be snared therein: for it is an
abomination to the L-rd your G-d.
EXODUS 34
14 For you shall worship no other god: for
the L- rd, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous
G-d:
JEREMIAH 25
6 And go not after other gods to serve
them, and to worship them, and provoke
me not to anger with the works of your
hands; and I will do you no hurt.
7 Yet you have not hearkened unto me,
says the L-rd; that you might provoke me to
anger with the works of your hands to your

16 And the L-rd said unto Moses, “Behold,
you shall sleep with your fathers; and this
people will rise up, and go whoring after
the gods of the strangers of the land, where
they go to be among them, and will forsake
me, and break my covenant which I have
made with them.
17 Then my anger shall be kindled against
them in that day, and will forsake them,
and I will hide my face from them, and they
shall be devoured, and many evils and
troubles shall befall them; so that they will
say in that day, ‘Are not these evils come
upon us, because our G-d is not among us?’
18 And I will surely hide my face in that
day for all the evils which they shall have
wrought, in that they are turned unto other
gods.
ISAIAH 11
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of
the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow
out of his roots:

him, the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, the spirit of counsel and
might, the spirit of knowledge and of the
fear of the L-rd;

understanding in the fear of the L-rd: and

neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

7 Alas, for that day is great, so that none is
like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble;
but he shall be saved out of it.

the L-rd of hosts, that I will break his yoke
from off your neck, and will burst your
bonds, and strangers shall no more serve
themselves of him:
9 But they shall serve the L-rd their G-d,
and David their king, whom I will raise up
unto them.
EZEKIEL 34
23 And I will set up one shepherd over
them, and he shall feed them, even my
servant David; he shall feed them, and he
shall be their shepherd.
24 And I the L-rd will be their G-d, and
my servant David a prince among them; I
the L-rd have spoken it.
EZEKIEL 37
23 Neither shall they defile themselves any
more with their idols, nor with their
detestable things, nor with any of their
transgressions: but I will save them out of
all their dwelling places, wherein they have
sinned, and will cleanse them so shall they
be my people, and I will be their G-d.

shepherd: they shall also walk in my
judgments, and observe my statutes, and do

HOSHEAH 3
4 For the children of Israel shall abide
many days without a king, and without a
prince, and without a sacrifice, and without
an image, and without an ephod, and
without teraphim:
5 Afterward shall the children of Israel
return, and seek the L-rd their G-d, and David
“All Trinitarians agree that the ideas about G-d expressed in the doctrine of the
Trinity are not found directly in the Old Testament.”

SATAN
NUMBERS 22
22 G-d’s anger was kindled because he was
going, and the angel of the L-rd took his stand
in the road as his adversary. Now he was
riding on the donkey, and his two servants
were with him.
1 KINGS 11
23 And G-d stirred him up another
adversary, Rezon, the son of Eliadah, which
fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah:
25 And he was an adversary to Israel all the
days of Solomon, beside the mischief that
Hada did: and he abhorred Israel, and
reigned over Syria.
2 SAMUEL 19
22 And David said, “What have I to do
with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you
should this day be adversaries unto me?
Shall there any man be put to death this day
in Israel? For do not I know that I am this
day king over Israel?
JOB 1
6 One day the heavenly beings came to
present themselves before the L-rd, and
Satan also came among them.
7 The L-rd said to Satan, “where have you
come from?” Satan answered the L-rd,
“From going to and fro on the earth, and
from walking up and down on it.”
8 The L-rd said to Satan, “Have you
considered my servant Job? There is no one
like him on the earth, a blameless and
upright man who fears G-d and turns away
from evil.”
9 Then Satan answered the L-rd, “Does Job
fear G-d for nothing?

10 Have you not put a fence around him
and his house and all that he has, on every
side? You have blessed the work of his
hands, and his possessions have increased
in the land.
11 But stretch out your hand now, and
touch all that he has, and he will curse you
to your face.”
12 The L-rd said to Satan, “Very well, all
that he has in your power; only do not
stretch out your hand against him!” So
Satan went out from the presence of the L-
rd.
ZECHARIAH 3
1 Then he showed me the high priest
Joshua standing before the angel of the L-
rd, and Satan standing at his right hand to
accuse him.
2 And the L-rd said to Satan, “The L-rd
rebuke you, O Satan! The L-rd who has
chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this
man a brand plucked from the fire?”
3 Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes
as he stood before the angel.
4 The angel said to those who were standing
before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” And
to him he said, “See, I have taken your guilt
away from you, and I will clothe you with
festal apparel.”
5 And I said, “Let them put a clean turban
on his head.” So they put a clean turban on
his head and clothed him with apparel; and
the angel of the L-rd was standing by.
 2 SAMUEL 24
1 Again the anger of the L-rd was kindled
against Israel, and he incited David against
them, saying “Go, count the people of Israel
and Judah.”
2 So the king said to Joab and the
commanders of the army who were with
him, “Go through all the tribes of Israel,
from Dan to Beersheba, and take a census of
the people, so that I may know how many
there are.

ISAIAH 45
7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create
evil: I the L-rd do all these things.

He (Satan) is clearly subordinate to G-d, a member of His suite

(Heb. bene ha-elokim), who is unable to act without His
permission. Nowhere is he in any sense a rival of G-d – The

2 CORINTHIANS 4
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them
which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ,
who is the image of god, should shine unto them.

Paul sees this world as a battleground in which Satan and his

hosts contend with G-d and his forces for the lives of men – The
Interpreter’s Bible Commentary

JOHN 12 JOHN 16
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this
shall the prince of this world be cast out. world is judged.
