“Remembering the Past”

In the certain times, where time is unknown, and we could not provoke where would it be going, people
experience happenings and certain events which marks the existence of humanity. Which chiseled our being
that are written in history. This records of history makes the locked and unanswerable questions to be unlocked
and answered for a very long time. What is history? Why is history linked to sources? What are primary
sources? And what are secondary sources? These questions that are asked, these questions that are meant to be
answered, not for the sake, but for our information to be ripped out the very purpose of why these things made
to exist.
History is a written and unwritten record, a keeper of evidences, and a nourisher left by human beings,
which nourish and shaped our human existence. History also manifested greatly in our walks of life. From the
creation, to the rise of civilizations, to the recorded wars, in the reestablishments, and until to the modern and
contemporary world. These are all written in our history. It gives us the sense of individuality and
consciousness, by realizing where we have gone from, and to better understand who we are. We are made
stronger, we improve and we develop because of history. Our pathways to development, foster and
improvement made possible because we are guided by history. And we made a great change and possibility in
humanity because it is marked by history.
Sources are linked with history, the primary, secondary and tertiary sources. These organized evidences,
either written or oral, could be used in presenting happenings from the past. Primary sources are those sources
which exist to explain the certain events a very long time ago and it directly witnessed by the person itself. Like
the letter of a man who witnessed the events during the time of martial law, the narrative note that was made
by a girl who directly experiences the Bohol 7.2 magnitude earthquake, and even our own daily journal about
our college life in the university. Secondary sources on the other hand, are recently written manuscripts and
books that describe past events, often written by a historian or trained scholar familiar about the time period and
civilization in such event. Like written books, journals, catalogs, newspapers and the like (Salem Media, 2020).
For example is an encyclopedia telling about what happened during the Philippine Revolution for Independence
from the colonization of the Spaniard. These sources are big help for historians to deliver messages and events
in a more detailed and specific way for people’s queries.
In relation with history, it does not limit only in written sources. We could still explain or we could still
know the life of early Filipinos by their fossil remains. Just like the fossils evidences of the Tabon Man of
Palawan. Also, through oral transitions coming from our old individuals and historian who are credible sources
of the early life of Filipinos. This made history more broad and could be in a bigger dimension. As far as there
are lot of ways and technique, we could still answer questions in order for us to know the life of our Filipinos
ancestors.
In accordance with the absence of written evidences, we could rather explain it by the arts and there
creation that they used in their daily lives. The marks of material evidences are also a great help to answer such
questions and may drive to help improve the explanation of our history. Yes, we based more on written
evidences because it is more accessible but, we must not forget that material evidences are also a great help. An
example of it was the The Manunggul Jar, which was known as the vessel of the death of the early Filipinos. It
represent their form of livelihood, considered as a type of funerary pottery. Which also signifies the maritime
culture of our ancestors living near the bodies of water that greatly influenced their everyday life (National
Museum of the Philippines).
The past has its all decisions completed, its participants dead and its history told. These are what the
general public perceive as the unchanging bedrock on which historian and archeologist stand. But them as a
provider of the past, they recognize that the bedrock is really quick stand, that bits of the story are yet untold.
Who may know because of what we’ve experienced in our history and more specifically in the past, will
become the main reason why we improve, why we soar and why we become more equipped. For us to fully
established our being and help drive our pathways to development and foster.
