Key Professional Skills

Communication
My communication skills have been constantly evolving throughout my education, clinical
experiences, and community involvement. I can communicate effectively with patient, family
members and multidisciplinary team and co-worker in hospital maintaining therapeutic
relationship during collection of information to provide safe and quality nursing care. During
my placement I have done clear and concise documentation by using A-H format. I am
confident in transferring clear information about the patient by using ISBAR handover to
another shift staff and multidisciplinary team.
Critical thinking
During my professional practical experiences as a student nurse, I have demonstrated my ability
to think critically by assessing the holistic health of each patient to administer safe and quality
nursing care by formulating nursing care plan. I developed this skill by continuously linking
my theory to practise, reflecting on result findings, and distinguishing between normal and
abnormal results and then considering what this may mean for the patient’s overall health.
Teamwork
Teamwork is essential requirement for nursing care that encompass the element of
communication, support, and development on single or group of clients. I am capable to work
as an effective member of a team by coordinating with other health staffs to provide safe and
quality care. I have demonstrated the effective use of teamwork throughout my clinical
placement and working as nurse assistant in different health facilities.
Flexibility
I believe flexibility is a crucial skill in maintaining a good rapport with both patients and
colleagues. I had to travel and accommodate to different places for my clinical placement. I
worked as an agency nurse (AIN) and casual nurse assistant in hospital and been flexible to on
call shift and roster. So, I am committed and flexible to my work.
Time Management
SUJATA RAI 2
Time management is a skill I have developed over time and continue to maintain. I have
demonstrated the excellent time management skill during my recent clinical placement in
NICU where I managed appropriate patient load while supervised. I carried out the activities
ranging from my neonate’s second or third hourly physical assessment and care, nutritional
management, medication administration, health education to parents, and documentation
within my eight-hour shift.
Professionalism
I maintain professionalism that encompass respect, positive learning attitude and discipline. I
am always keen to learn new things from my colleague and other health professionals. I take
responsibility of my patient and work to maintain disciplines.
