Important Information When Upgrading
It is important to note that when installing gINT V8i, you will need to uninstall gINT version
8. After uninstalling the existing gINT installation, you may consider removing old gINT
folders.
If you opt to remove old gINT folders, you must back up your users files (example: project
files .gpj, library files .glb, template files .gdt, script files .gsc etc.) if they are saved locally to
your computer.
The following folders will be redundant after gINT is uninstalled and may be removed:
Additionally, gINT V8i stores company information, system properties, and user files in
new locations that make gINT V8i compliant with Microsoft requirements.
gINT V8i version requires a minimum operating system version of Windows XP Service
Pack 3 to operate correctly.
The setup.gsh file contains the list of recently opened files, including the path to the most
important file, your library. It also contains your system settings.
1. To find the setup.gsh file, open gINT and go to Help|About gINT where the location
of the setup.gsh file is displayed (for example ‘c:\program
files\bentley\gint\settings’”.
2. Locate and copy the setup.gsh file.
3. Browse to the following path (replace [user name] with your Windows login). Some
of these folders are hidden and will have to be unhidden:
a. XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name]\Application Data
b. Vista and Windows 7: C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Local
4. Create a new folder called “Bentley”
a. XP: in the Application Data folder
b. Vista and Windows 7: in the Local folder
5. In the Bentley folder, create a new folder called “gint”.
6. Paste the setup.gsh into the “gint” folder.

Pre-installation
The installer can be downloaded from the Bentley SELECT site. If you do not have an access
to Bentley SELECT, contact your system administrator. The installation consists of two files,
gINT.msi and Setup.exe. The gINT.msi is intended for advanced deployments, such as
deployment through Group Policy Objects. For all other cases, use Setup.exe, which will
take care of the prerequisites and launch the installation.
If you download the installer from SELECT downloads, you will receive a pre-installation
package, a single executable, similar the figure below:
Launch the pre-installation package. On Windows Vista and Windows 7, depending on your
user access settings, you may be required to use the Run as Administrator option.
1. Click the Next button. The screen shows the location where the pre-installation
wizard will unpack the installation files. This is not the location where the program
itself will be installed.
2. Click the Next button. The pre-installation package will give you progress feedback
while it unpacks the installation. When the pre-installation is done, unpacking it
will launch the installation.
1. Click the Next button in the Welcome to the gINT Setup Wizard dialog box to
proceed.
2. Read and accept the End User License Agreement by checking the check box at the
bottom of the dialog box.

3. You will be presented with the Custom Setup. Select desired Features to install. If
gINT is new to your company, you need to install at least one set of Standard User
Files. By default, the gINT Standard US LAB User files are selected. Optionally you
may select the installation location for the Standard User files.
4. You will be presented with the Product to License Initially. Select the product you
are licensed for. Contact your administrator if uncertain.
Click the Next button to proceed.
5. You will be presented with the Ready to Install gINT.
The application installation wizard will give you progress feedback during the
installation process. It may take several minutes to install.
6. You will be presented with the Completed the gINT Setup Wizard.
If you have installed ProjectWise, you will be presented with the ProjectWise Log In dialog
box. Consult your gINT/system administrator to check if gINT standard files are saved in
ProjectWise.
Alternatively you may click the Cancel button in the ProjectWise Log In dialog box. You will
be prompted with the following question: “Do you wish to disable ProjectWise support?” If
unsure, click the Yes button or consult your gINT/system administrator.
If you are upgrading from version 8 and you moved the setup.gsh to the new location, when
you open gINT it should find your library. If it does not find your library, see the ‘Copy
setup.gsh’ section above.
If you are a new user, select a library file (.glb) when prompted with SELECT gINT LIBRARY
dialog box and click the Open button to proceed.
If you are not a new user but gINT is new to this PC, browse to where your company’s gINT
—5—
library is saved.
You will be prompted with the WELCOME TO gINT dialog box. Read the instructions and
click the OK button to proceed.
Enter the company information when prompted with the COMPANY INFORMATION dialog
box. The only required field is the Company Name. In gINT V8i, required fields are
identified with a yellow background. It is recommended to fill out other fields in this dialog
box. Click the OK button to proceed.
Select preferred system properties when prompted with the SYSTEMS PROPERTIES
INITIALIZATION dialog box. Click the OK button to proceed.
Setup prefered properties or accept default values (recommended) when prompted with
the SET UP DEFAULT gINT PROPERTIES. Click the OK button when finished.
