One recipe of Rainbow Stew, divided into three colors (red, yellow, blue) cooled in the
refrigerator
Scaffolding: Children will be able to squeeze the different colored mixtures with their hands.
Some of the children are able to identify primary and secondary colors.
Facilitation: The caregiver will prepare the Rainbow Stew prior to the activity. At a table, the
caregiver will set out the bowls of Rainbow Stew, baggies, and spoons. She will then invite
children to watch her put two colors of Rainbow Stew in a bag and zip it closed. She will then

hold it out for them to watch her squish it as it mixes together to make a new color. Next, she
will provide opportunities for the children to spoon out their own color choice of Rainbow Stew
and put it into their baggy and assist them as needed. She will encourage the naming of colors
by the children and also talk about the temperature of the Rainbow Stew, asking the children
questions about it going from cold to warm and firm to soft as it is handled.

Objective: Children will learn to balance as they kick a ball around the play yard.
Materials
Scaffolding: Children will expand their walking and running abilities as they practice kicking a
ball.
Facilitation: During outside play time, the caregiver will provide balls for children to play with.
She will offer encouragement and assistance as children kick and play with the balls.

Scaffolding: The children are able to identify their eyes, ears, mouth, and nose and fingers.
Facilitation: The caregiver will invite the children to read a story. She will talk about the cover
of the book, turning pages, and the back of the book. She will ask questions about what the book
may be about and read the book in an animated, engaging way and invite children participation.
The book presents the five senses. She will encourage students to repeat words like see, hear,
groups of two or three – always in close physical contact. Caregivers sing with toddlers, do
finger plays, and act out simple stories or folktales, with children participating actively.”
