trait theory

Distinguishes one property from another in a very durable or uniform

manner. A person's character acts as a useful "analytical unit" for
understanding personality, away from his behavior. Property theory
is a multifaceted model of species theory in many ways

They deal with determining basic traits and find a way to measure
them by giving meaningful descriptions of personalities. There are
two ways to assess personality traits:

1. A person describes himself by answering questions about his

attitudes, feelings and behavior.

2. The other person evaluates a person's characteristics from what

they know about the individual or from direct observation of the
behavior.

Personality survey is basically a questionnaire in which a person

expresses reactions or feelings in certain situations.

Raymond Cuttell

In 1965, property theorist Raymond Cuttell reduced the number of

key personality traits from 4,000 to 171 from Allport's original list,
often removing extraordinary traits and incorporating common
traits.

He then used a statistical technique called factor analysis to define

closely related terms, eventually reducing his list to just 16 key
personality traits.
L-Data - This is biographical data such as school standards,
absenteeism.

Q-Data - This is a questionnaire designed to assess an individual's

personality.

D-data - This is the data of objective experiments designed to

"integrate" into a personality structure.

2. Social learning theory

Through learning, we can gain knowledge, language, attitudes,

values, manual skills, fears, personality traits and self-insight.

Emphasis is placed on what the individual is doing in a given

situation. Some personal variables that determine what a person will
do in a given situation include:

Competencies

Cognitive strategies

Outcome expectations

Subjective value outcome

5. Psychological theory

Sigmund Freud added pride to the theory of psychoanalysis. In his 40

years of writing and medical practice.

Freud acknowledged one of the intellectual giants in the history of

Moyd’s thought and developed the first comprehensive theory of
personality. It is an extensive set of clinical observations based on his
therapeutic experience and self-analysis. Freud proposed a three-
part personality structure consisting of ID, ego, and supercore.

It works on the principle of bloating, that every desired stimulus

must be fulfilled immediately, regardless of the consequences.
