Brain Drain

Brain drain is one of the serious problems of many countries. It is the migration of

educated, talented and skilled people from underdeveloped countries to developed countries.

This may seem a big loss at first, but as you think over about it, it is also an advantage for skilled

and talented people to become productive and be able to gain prosperity.

Bill Banham (2015) states, “A change of country offers opportunities to test skills in

different ways and can often provide quicker career progression than in your home country”.

These talents must have a chance to be enhanced in order to flourish by having more support and

opportunities in a favourable environment. The relocation of educated people to advanced

countries will help in improving talents.

According to Ben Searls (nd) as cited in Conboye (2013), “If you have international work

experience, you’re likely to be confident and have outgoing personality”. The experience of

learning new skills can be utilized once they return to their home country. Thus, being an

educated immigrant benefits not only themselves and their country but also the world.

The desire of ensuring a better living is also an impetus for professionals to work abroad.

Khayrul Islam (2014) asserts that “Average wage in other countries such as Europe is much

higher than underdeveloped countries.” Migration to developed countries can provide higher

salaries that would entail the security of the future of the workers and their families.
Brain drain helps individual talents to flourish and helps people gain quality experience

of their careers. Somehow, it’s a loss of the country’s intellect which may be used to contribute

to the prosperity of underdeveloped countries. But if these talents will only be kept in the

underdeveloped countries will it be able to grow and become productive? Thus, migration to

developed countries is useful for the improvement and prosperity of the talents and better living

standards of the workers.
