aim of the College in developing, enhancing, and strengthening students’ English
proficiency and competency through the lessons, activities, and assessment incorporated.
The LM is divided into 9 lessons, each emphasizing the outcomes and topics
students need to acquire through simplified discussions, activities, and assessments.
Lesson 2 is all about the difference among the main varieties of language which are
dialects, sociolects, and registers.
Lesson 4 is all about National Language and Planning specifically the processes
and the people involved.
Lesson 5 is all about the impact of gender and age, including the social class and
status in the language of the society.
Lesson 6 is all about Language Change, its reasons, processes, and even how to
study language change.
Lesson 7 is all about Gender, Politeness, and Stereotypes specifically the features
of women’s language, linguistic features as politeness devices, linguistic construction of
sexuality, and sexist language.
Lesson 8 is all about Language, Cognition, and Culture which elaborates the
relationship among language, thought, reality especially when taking into account culture
of the society, and social factors such as gender construction and social identity.
It is hoped that this LM helps students acquire necessary knowledge and skills they
