The Xstrahl 200 and 300 enable deeper skin lesions to be treated and the additional orthovoltage capability makes them
ideal to provide palliative care and to treat benign inflammatory and degenerative disorders.
“Orthovoltage treatment may be easier to use for small tumours and for frail patients. It is therefore important that radiotherapy
departments continue to provide access to such machines.” NICE Guidance on Cancer Services, Improving Outcomes
for People with Skin Tumours, including Melanoma 2006

Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, Norfolk & Norwich, United Kingdom
The Colney Centre is home to the Radiotherapy Treatment Suite at the Norfolk and
Norwich University Hospitals, providing the best possible standards of treatment,
care and support for patients and carers affected by cancer and other diseases.
Efficiency and use of the latest technology and research available, is a priority for
the hospital so to meet patient demand and increase radiotherapy capacity, the
decision was taken to add an Xstrahl 150 to their department.
“At Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals we are fortunate to have world class
facilities, extremely skilled staff and are rated highly by our patients for our quality
of care. Patient-focussed care is at the heart of everything we do in our radiotherapy
department. The addition of an Xstrahl 150 X-ray therapy system for treating
superficial skin conditions such as non-melanoma skin cancer, will not only allow
us to offer treatment to patients more efficiently, but also provide an enhanced
patient experience. The user experience is also very positive and the Xstrahl 150 is
particularly effective for targeting superficial tumours in hard to reach places. By
adding this technology to our department, we will be able to free up valuable time
on our linear accelerators for more complex clinical conditions. We are constantly
striving to meet patient demand which is ever increasing and we are excited to
have this option available to our patients.”
“Our Dermatology centre relies on Xstrahl 100 and 150 systems to treat skin
malignant neoplasms. We are seeing an increasing number of patients with basal
cell and squamous cell carcinomas due to ageing of the general population. The
Xstrahl radiotherapy systems help us to respond to this growing treatment demand
and we treat these patients on an outpatient basis, helping us to reduce surgical
and hospitalisation costs. The team find the Xstrahl technology easy to use and
helps them to deliver safe and effective radiotherapy to our patients.”
Roberta Piccinno, MD, Photoradiotherapy Department, Dermatology Unit, Fondazione
IRCCS Ca’Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Milan, Italy
“Here at Valley View, we have been using the Xstrahl 150 model to treat a high
proportion of our patients with skin cancers and keloids for over 3 years now.
When we were deciding which superficial radiotherapy unit to purchase, we were
attracted to the Xstrahl models because they offered higher energies compared
to competitor units. We also liked detailed features of the machine such as the
water-cooling system and the interlock option on the filter selection.
We love using the Xstrahl radiotherapy system to treat our patients because of its
user-friendly technology and the variety of energy levels available. The system is
very reliable and we have had 100% up time.”
John Sweet, Medical Physicist, Valley View Hospital, Glenwood Springs, USA
“We have been using Xstrahl radiotherapy systems for 4 years and have successfully
treated over 230 patients with this technology. We currently use the Xstrahl 100
machine and we find the system beneficial for treating basal cell and squamous
cell carcinomas, as well as a wide range of other skin lesions and conditions. The
Xstrahl system is easily transported between treatment rooms and has the added
benefit of enabling us to effortlessly reconfigure our department layout. Our
annual service contract cost is reduced because our engineers conduct the first-line
maintenance of the Xstrahl machine directly.”
Libby Mills, Principal Radiographer, The Christie NHS Foundation trust, Manchester, UK

Xstrahl radiotherapy systems are a cost effective way of increasing radiotherapy capacity and enhancing your service. Treating
superficial conditions on an Xstrahl machine can free up valuable LINAC hours for more complex conditions. In the current
global economic climate with widespread pressures on health systems, Xstrahl solutions represent value, key to hospital
procurement and clinical decision making.
Choosing to invest in radiotherapy makes long-term clinical and economic sense. Cost-effective and efficacious, it is a
treatment choice that could help to save millions of lives.2 Currently a significant global shortfall of access to and investment
in radiotherapy treatments, and planning for radiotherapy in cancer treatment is often only considered as an afterthought.2
More investment in radiotherapy systems in hospitals globally could produce a net benefit of $278·1 billion in 2015–35 and
help to save 26·9 million life-years over the lifetime of patients who receive treatment2.
