control. Paul McCartney, who wrote and sang the song, said he got the idea for Let it
Be after he had a dream about his mother during a tense period when the band was
recording The White Album in 1968. His mother had died of cancer when he was just 14
years old. She is the “Mother Mary” referred to in the lyrics.
This inspiring song has continually ranked among the most popular Beatles’ tracks, and
on lists of The Greatest Songs of All Time.
