HOW STUDENTS CAN

OVERCOME THEIR
FEAR OF MATHS
It’s fair to say maths is
not everyone’s
favourite subject. In
fact, for many people,
the feelings of tension
and anxiety that arise
when trying to solve a
mathematical problem
can be all consuming.
Positive MINDSET
The worst fear of a student is the
humiliation faced after getting a
problem wrong or scoring low on
a test. As a teacher, building
confidence and ensuring students
through positive and encouraging
remarks is the first step to
overcome the built-up anxiety in
students.
BUILD CONFIDENCE
It’s no surprise that confidence is a
huge factor in students’ anxiety
towards mathematics. Previous
negative experiences with the
subject can lead to a negative and
defeatist attitude. To overcome
this, you should provide students
with regular confidence-building
exercises that look challenging but
enable all students to do well.
STUDENT SHOULD PLAY WITH MATHS
Game-based learning is a popular
way these days, which students love
and enjoy. So If your students get
anxious while performing in tests
and solving problems in class, you
can introduce fun online math games
through which they can practice and
improve their skills.
ENCOURAGE PRACTICE
Repeatedly working on maths
problem helps improve
mathematical skills. Therefore,
encourage students to solve
maths problems every day. Set
aside a particular time for this
practice. Investing extra time and
effort will bring about a great
change in both attitude and
performance.
MOTIVATE STUDENTS
As a parent, avoid making statements
like, 'Maths is so hard', or 'I hate
maths'. Instead, encourage your child
by saying things like, 'Maths was
difficult for me because I didn’t get the
right kind of support. Today, there are
so many good resources online, fun
activities and videos, which can help us
both get better at the subject'.
DON'T AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS
A student should never
be afraid to ask
questions in the maths
class. Asking questions
will help to resolve any
doubts a student might
have.
Each student from
kindergarten to university
is aware of the
importance of maths in
their career as well as in
their day to day lives.
Avoid psychological
blocks often caused due
to fear of getting the
wrong answers.
CONCLUSION
However, it is
important for an
individual to identify
mathematics anxiety
and practice
appropriate methods
for dealing with
mathematics anxiety. https://eduminatti.com
