Critique

Based on the arguments and facts presented, it is right and just that the franchise
application of ABS-CBN in the Philippines to construct, install, establish, operate, and
maintain radio and television broadcasting stations was denied, and I totally agree with
it because Mr. Lopez have not able to prove that he is a Filipino, and has a doubtful
citizenship which makes him violated the constitution of the Philippines. The utilization
of PDRs only leads to the control of foreign ownership of the corporation which has
already ceased but they continued its issuance and that’s violating the law again. They
also produced and operated TV Plus Box for profit, which was not authorized or
permitted by the NTC, and have also charged the public for KBO pay-per-view even if it
is free to air under its franchise. They have utilize and control AMCARA’s legislative
franchise without the consent of the Congress which is a violation of the franchise
policies. More importantly, they have fail to regularize their employees, which was due
to uniqueness of different programs, which is not highly appropriate and violates the
Labor Law, they did not exhibit a good exemplar of labor practices even if they are a big
profitable corporation. Sixth, is their biased reporting, inappropriate program content
and meddling with politics where they tend to damage the reputation of a person and
they just play the advertisement campaign of a candidate that they are in favor to.

The decision of the House of the Representatives to the denial of franchise

application implies that no one can hide and is under the law and we should always
follow the law. The ABS-CBN Corporation as well as their artists and supporters cannot
blame the decision of the Representatives, because it was their negligence of
responsibility as a mass media servants.
