a) Wild elephants were wandering into rice fields and eating up the

crops at night. This was known as the ‘elephant menace’.


b) The elephants were very angry because they did not have anything
to eat.
c) The elephants saw that the walls of the granary were thick and
strong. They had a plan. One elephant went around it, almost as if
inspecting it. One of the largest of the herd then took up a position at
a corner of the granary, and started pounding the wall with its tusks.
d) The elephants organized themselves into four groups and each
group came in one by one to eat their fill. One elephant stood a
distance away as a sentinel .Thereby everybody ate their fill.

Chapter – 3

3. a) Robin Hood’s lived in the forest because his lands were taken away by the
brother of the King of England. Robin had to run away to the forest to save his life.

b) The Sheriff disliked Robin because he helped the poor and got back for them all the
things the Sheriff stole from them.

c) The prize for the archery contest was a silver arrow. Robin would want to win the
match and then sell the arrow to get money to give to the poor. When Robin would
come for the match, they would capture him

d) The Sheriff planned the shooting match to fool Robin, capture him, and put him in
prison forever.

e) Robin Hood wore a red jacket on his usual forest-green dress so that no one would
recognise him. When he won the match, the Sheriff did not realize that it was Robin.

f) The Sheriff had planned to capture Robin, but it was the Sheriff who was finally
captured by Robin. Robin shot the silver arrow far away which made the Sheriff’s
greedy guards run after it. They left the Sheriff alone with Robin. Robin then threw a
rope around him and captured him.
