Universal Health Care

The dream of the Filipino people has taken place after President Rodrigo Duterte signed
the Universal Health Care (UHC) Law or the Republic Act No 11223 of the Philippines. But
what is this UHC Act or Law all about? According to Wikipedia, Universal healthcare is a health
care system in which all residents of a particular country or region are assured access to health
care.
Filipinos are expecting that this Act will give them support financially in terms of
covering the expenses regarding to their health and it will be a relief to them that it will lower out
their pocket to withdraw from the cost required medically. But is it beneficial to them? What are
the benefits? What are the Pros? and What are the Cons of this Act?
Yes, it is real that this Act will help Filipino people that they will be granted for the
health coverage but not everything will be covered, and not everything will be free. Here is what
you can expect. Another is that PhilHealth will become the “national purchaser” of health goods
and services, but on the current issue that PhilHealth is facing knowing that there has been
corruption happened in the said agency, how PhilHealth will be in action of paying and
allocating health care providers like hospitals and clinics for services given to Filipinos? If we
think of it, it is really a big deal to consider what happened.
For the Positive and Negative effects of this act, it's quite good to some, but on the other
hand it’s a bad idea to others. For example, it could increase the demand for medical services,
but it could diminish the quality of care people receive. Also, Yes, it will make easier for patient
to seek treatment. From this standpoint, this type of healthcare system sounds like an optimum
choice—people getting what they need, when they need it, at a price they can afford to pay. But,
as critics point out, that decrease in cost must come from somewhere and will cause for Doctors
to have less flexibility in negotiating rates.
So, is Universal Healthcare System the Right Way to Go? Based on an article by Forbes,
the American Medical Association (AMA) has a firm opinion on universal healthcare. As an
alternative or substitute of giving a free or low-cost coverage to everyone, the association prefers
a different way of dealing it like healthcare for some. With this approach, private insurers would
still stay in business and be available to those who need it. However, lower-income or those
diagnosed with specific serious health conditions would have access to government-funded care.
