Carbocyclic and Heterocyclic Ketones Rule C-317

317.1 - Diketones and tetraketones derived from aromatic compounds by conversion of

two or four CH groups into CO groups with any necessary rearrangement of double
bonds to a quinonoid structure are named by adding the suffix "-quinone" or "-diquinone"
to the name of the aromatic compound (this name sometimes being modified).

Examples to Rule C-317.1

The following names are retained:

317.2 - Radicals formed by loss of hydrogen from a quinone are named by changing the
ending "-quinone" to "-quinonyl", the quinone grouping having priority over the point of
attachment for lowest locants.
