The Doctor & the Profession

 No advertisement about qualifications & achievements.

 No other activities & business beside medicine. Fully devoted.

 Medical reports should be genuine.

 No commission from laboratories or pharmacies.

 Updated medical knowledge & continuous learning.

 A single advertising board size 80 x 60 cm.

 No blinking lights or other attention attracting ways such as those used in


the markets.

The doctor & Colleagues

 Do not sit on patient.

 Refer patient whenever necessary to more expert colleagues.

 Do not criticize what was done by the previous colleagues.

 Respect seniourity.

 No fees for doctors & their family, whether public or private service.
Doctor & patients

 Consent before any medical procedure, after good explanation.

 Enthusiasm, full attention, pain free tackling.

 Examination involving private areas should be attended by a third person


e.g. sister, husband, etc.

 Accurate diagnosis.

 All mattered divulged or found on examination or revealed on investigations


should be confidential.

 No curiosity into unrelated affairs.

Conditions of divulging the patient professional secrets

1. Medical exam ordered by court.

2. In life insurance.

3. In serious epidemic diseases.

4. In criminal injuries.

5. For the safety of the patient or his surroundings.

6. If requested by the patient.

7. Doctor defending himself against accusation of negligence or ignorance.


Medical Consent

 Essential before exam, operation, etc.

 Invalid if obtained for illegal procedure e.g. criminal abortion.

Consent could be:

1. Implied: By the behaviour of the patient.

2. Verbal.

3. A written consent in serious or major intervention.

 Consent is not required in:

1. Schools for children.

2. For immigrants at ports & airports.

3. Food handlers.

4. On admission to prison.

5. On court probation.
