Re: Suspension of Pre-requisite Subjects

The Legal Education Board (LEB) issued LEB Memo No. 56, Section 6 of which states:

“To afford law schools and law students maximum ability to catch up with
learning objectives, the application of the Table of Prerequisites provided for
under LEBMO No. 5 (2016), as amended, and Section 4 of LEBMO No. 2 (2013)
shall be suspended for Academic Year 2020-2021.”

In a subsequent letter dated 13 August 2020, the LEB further clarified the application of
Section 6 of LEB Memo No. 56 in this wise:

“This is in response po to your email inquiry about the scope of the suspension of
pre-requisite subjects as mentioned in Section 6 in LEB MC No. 56.

Please be advised that LEBMC No. 56 is indeed a response to the abrupt and
disruptive nature of the Covid-19 pandemic and as a guide for the upcoming
academic year. Although the suspension of the Table of Requisites
prescribed therein is for the academic year 2020-2021, this guideline is meant to
better afford those law schools and law students whose ability to meet their
learning objectives were disrupted by the pandemic. This means that this covers
those pre-requisite subjects both in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. However, it
should also be noted that schools are given ample discretion in matters like this as
we believe such actions fall within the academic freedom of each institution as to
how to better prepare students especially in these unprecedented times.

In short, the suspension of pre-requisite is only optional and primarily designed

for school administrators so that they may plan the academic schedule of students
with as much flexibility as possible. And it shall rest solely on the discretion of the
school which prerequisites to enforce, and which not to.

We hope this was helpful in your inquiry.”

In light of the LEB’s recent issuances, the Gullas Law School resolves to adopt Section 6
of LEB Memo No. 56 suspending the Table of Prerequisites, subject, however, to the
Dean’s evaluation and approval taking into account the best interest of the student. You
may, thus, process your enrollment and/or add subjects in accordance with this
Memorandum.

For your guidance and compliance.

Dean Joseph Randi C. Torregosa (sgd.)
