Neil Alden Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930, in Ohio, USA. He got a degree
in aeronautical engineering and a master’s degree in aerospace engineering.
Armstrong worked as a test pilot for several years, and then he became a member
of the astronaut corps. He went to space for the first time in March 1966 aboard the
Gemini. In July of 1969, Neil Armstrong was the commander of Apollo 11. On July
20, 1969, Commander Armstrong and his fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin touched
down on the lunar surface. Armstrong was the first person to touch the Moon's
surface. He spoke the unforgettable phrase: “That's one small step for man, one
giant leap for mankind.”
